This past Friday evening my DD and I were travelling down to the Georgia coast for the Memorial Day Weekend. After a busy day at work, I was so ready to get to where I was going and relax. We left home about 7:30 pm for the 1-1/2 hour drive. We were just about an hour into our trip when DD remembers that she had not opened the doors to the horses’ stalls so we turned around to head back home. After making sure ONCE again that all was well on the home front, we start back on our journey towards the coast around 9:15 pm. Not 10 miles from our home at a very busy intersection, I happen to look over at the edge of the pavement and there sits the prettiest little kitten I’ve ever seen!! Of course, my DD spots her at the same time and insists that I retrieve it!! I jump (actually fell) out of the car just knowing in the back of my mind this poor little thing was going to run away from me. Instead, she trots right up to me as if to say please do not leave me here! So……here we are trying to get out of town and now we have this little kitten in tow. In the back of my mind, I knew I did not need another animal to take care of, but certainly was not going to let anything happen to her. DD decided to list her on a local advertisement and within an hour, we had several inquiries but still we were hesitant about giving her up. DD and I had just about come to the conclusion that we would keep her, until, this woman replied to the ad with such a sweet story of having just lost her cat and that this one reminded her so much of the one she had lost. We met and talked awhile and not only did my little kitten acquire a wonderful new (and safe) home; I met a dear woman and a new friend. I shudder to think what may have happened to her if we had not returned home to see about the horses. Here’s a picture of our A*n*g*e*l  ETA.....my DD had not forgotten to unlock the stall doors. It was FATE!

Georgia Peach, THANKS for posting your encounter and, yes, I do think that it was fate. Especially the fact that you went back to make sure the horses were okay - never knew you had horses as well as cats - same here. But love the fact that DD hadn't forgotten - too funny! Someone or something was guiding you!

Anyway, all things happen for a reason and I love your photograph of "Angel" and that you not only saved her but helped to find her new home! And, I personally think that YOU were her angel! Hope you had a great Memorial Weekend after all of the excitement!

Becky56, Alibaba and IR, Thanks for your kind comments. She is a beautiful kitten especially with the little tufts(?sp) in her ears and between her toes Smile DD and Angel's new owner talked yesterday and she is doing just fine.

But love the fact that DD hadn't forgotten - too funny! Idaho, DD, 22 as of yesterday, said to me "mama, I'm becoming just like you!"

So glad your DD followed up with the "adoption," Georgia Peach and, yes, she probably will follow in your footsteps - not a bad place to be, IMHO!

But had to comment re the kitten itself as your comment confirms something I suspected when I first saw the photo you posted - that kitten has some Maine Coon somewhere back in its ancestry!

Now, lots of cats have ear "tuffs" but the tuffs between toes is a definite breed-specific identifier. Maine Coons developed "tuffs" in both ears and paws as a protection from harsh climates BUT the toe "tuffs" were also to insulate them from ice/snow, kept them warm and gave them traction for walking on slippery surfaces! Yup, definitely some Maine Coon there!

Funny thing is when I showed DH your first post with the photo of the kitten, he said what I knew he would say - "Looks just like Alli!" She's our female Maine Coon with almost identical markings! Tuffs and all! So glad you were able to rescue her AND find a good home - all at the same time!

ETA: Another identifier is that cats with Maine Coon ancestry have paws that look just a little bit "off" compared to other cats' paws - they are more squared-off rather than oval - so you might check that out as well. In any event, it really doesn't matter - what matters is this kitten is safe and sound in a new and loving home, thanks to you and your DD!
