I just read about the chicken jerky and don't give my 11 lb. doxies anything but a Kong. I tried the hoove and they like to play ice (tile) hockey with it, slide under bathroom door.
I get given those tiny 2" rawhide chews but worry they might choke. They destroy toys, so not toys. Hmmmm? |

doxie muscat has said here before that rawhide chews are not good for some dogs since they can not only choke on them but get intestinal blockage as well.

I don't give Honey any rawhide or jerky of any kind. My vet told me yrs ago the same thing muscat said about the choking and blockage.

Oh my, I've been quoted.......
Seriously though, I'm not a fan of rawhide or pigs ears/ hooves, etc. You mentioned kong toys- how about ropetoys, or nylabones? most dogs cannot chew these up and eat them. |

Bully sticks.
Fully digestable and edible. Can't break off pieces that would create a choking hazard BUT they must be removed and tossed out when they get small enough to swallow. Come in a variety of sizes (shapes too). Also called Bull Pizzles or Bullies. Make sure to buy US made (not imported). Merricks makes a great brand. Sold in most pet stores. |

You can also change up what you put in the kong if you are worried about keeping their interest with it.
Sometimes you can just stuff it with kibble, other times try stuffing it with peanut butter and freezing it so it will take them longer to empty. (Or sometimes we do a combination of peanut butter and kibble) |

You could also try a treat ball. You put "treats" in the ball. They roll it around and treats fall out. We use Cheerios for our girl and it keeps her busy while we try to relax in the evenings!
Some people even put kibble in them. A great Kong receipe.... Plain yogurt, bananas, Cheerios and peanut butter (in layers). FREEZE! This message has been edited. Last edited by: camiboxer, |

camiboxer sounds good for me too. Funny you say about relaxing, mine need a certain amount of attention and nag until they get it.
Did anyone ever give their dogs Frosty Paws? One of my dachshunds, Rusty, threw up and I never tried on the two girl doxies remaining. |
