I know many of you followed Haystack's story as a rescued orphan kitten about a week old who is now thriving as a 1+ energetic cat to my story about the difficulties of living through the long goodbye with a 19 yr old cat in renal failure so thought I would post something I have learned during this time in case, someone, at sometime in the future, might benefit from it. First, KMR (Kitten Milk Replacement)is an incredible product but it is sold in two forms - liquid in cans and in powdered form from which you make up your own liquid. The powdered version is completely inadquate even though it might seem cheaper in the long run. The liquid version is great; the powdered version is useless as we discovered when we ran out of Haystack's liquid cans of cache to give to Beets. Beets wouldn't even look at it and reading the ingredients, I quickly realized why. The liquid version contains cream, egg yolks and soybean oils while the powdered version have none of those. Both products are expensive BUT I cannot believe that the same company would promote these two products as being the same - they aren't. I probably wouldn't even be posting this thread EXCEPT I know how many times people with older animals are desperate to find something they will eat - KMR liquid will work; don't fall for the cheaper imitation of the powdered version. Bottom line, I know Beets is fading BUT she is fading at a far slower pace than before now that she has unrestricted liquid KMR available and actually seems more lively now than she has been for quite some time ~ although lively is a relative term... So, anyone with an elderly cat that is having digestion issues or problems with getting enough nutrients? Give KMR Liquid a try; just don't fool yourself into thinking that the cheaper powdered version is the same - and don't be put off by price. Petco charges 7.99 per 8 oz can but it's available on-line for 2.29, shipping included. Just a bit of a rant here for a company that markets two different versions as being the same but a thumbs up on one of those versions for doing a great job - thought there might be others who might appreciate this knowledge when and if the time comes for them and the 4-legged furry bodies they love...

Of course there is going to be a difference. Think about what the canned liquid goes through compared to someone using a powder. The water, the preparation, the "type" of conditions(additives, purity ect) of the water, the cooling process. All these things make a big difference. The powder us just a temporary hold over until you can get the better canned product. Every vet I know tells their clients this and warns them about using it only **************************** "Don't accept your dog's admiration as conclusive evidence that you are wonderful." Thanks, Shelties Mom, for the back-up; I totally agree that the powdered form is just a temporary solution until the original liquid canned KMR can be obtained - and that was the point of my post - to let others know that there is a great difference between the two even though they are marketed as being the same. Thank you for explaining it better than I did....
