I use the regular ol' heartguard as given by our vet (my girl is half sheltie) and have not had any issues.

As for cost - call around and check online. My vet will price match what I find provided I can bring in a print out.

muddy...how you doing? ok Trifuexis my vet and I do not use fpr my shelties becaise more then half of mine have MDR1 issues. I am now using a product I vowed I never would "Heartgard" The formulation has been greatly improved since Interceptor is no longer being made. I work at my vets office and have spoken to several vets who have told me it is much better now and they have had no issues with it. I hope this helps a little. The Triflexis made all of mine sick and nauseated so my vet pulled it from them. So far the Heartgard seems to be working fine (almost a year now)

OMG Just took my sheltie in for red around his eyes & they think its some sort of allergy or dermatitis. He got an injection & two prescriptions (antibiotic & for itching) Meds make me so nervous. I delayed the heartworm pills since its is snowing (not wanting to over medicate now!) Vet agreed. The vet was aware of the problem with that Ivermectin(spg?) Will share what you said with my DH. Thanks!

THANK YOU, SheltiesMom.
I hoped you were lurking.... althoiugh you & I haven't always agreed, this one is in your ballpark.
IMO too few posters are sufficiently knowlegeable to intelligently respond to breed speicifc concerns.
When Trifexis was introduced I posted my concerns because there was zero breed speicific info.

Our Vet Rx/d Inverheart Plus for my muttly rescue, and claims to meet 800PetMeds prices. she also offers a 10% Seniors discount - so y'all, have a chat with your vet!
