Vet gave us new brand of heartworm pills & I have a sheltie. They are sensitive to some meds & this worries me. Any input on this here?

Looks as if it is a once a month pill with several drugs to treat both heartworms and intestinal worms. Color coded according to the size of dog being treated.

More info here.

Look at the package the meds come in. Find the name of the product and the name of the manufacturer and google it. That will get you the manufacturer's information, including the name of the active ingredient.

Also, google "collie" and heart worm medicines. That will get you a list of the meds a collie shouldn't take.

Or post the name of the new med here and wait about 12 hours (I have stuff planned for this afternoon) and I'll google it for you. I work in that industry so I may have an easier time getting through the stuff google spits out.

There have been several meds that were proven to be detrimental to Collie breeds.
Did you question what prompted Vet Rxing a new med?

IMO new drugs are iffy; if I were you, I'd only give tried & true heartworm preventatives
.

Hi getting back here late. When I called vet (he had retired!!!LOL~~) So talked to new guy & he understood my concerns completely. He exchanged pills for Trifexis with flea control & claims it should be safe. Only problem ~ geez
$120 for six pills?! I just hate giving new pill so will still worry. He doesn't start until the first of the month. I think some manufacturer has stopped making them.

Beautiful Sheltie- anyone else, other than me, notice that the fur looks like a Santa beard to go with the hat? Perfect!
