Pommy is constipated - this has happened before and it required an enema. He won't eat so no, I can't get pumpkin into him. Called the ER vet and he recommended "lactone" or "Catallac" but couldn't confirm the spelling.
Is anyone familiar with these products? I know one is generally for cats.

Sorry to hear this, junk collector, but afraid I can't help as I haven't experienced this before. Would it be possible to call the ER vet back (and talk to a vet tech if the DR isn't available) to clarify the exact name and where you might be able to obtain it after hours on a weekend?
Can you call a pharmacy. The one's around her advertise they now do pet meds. Pharmacists are pretty knowlegeble. Also, what about light plum juice- if it is safe for animals that is what my mom's doctor gives her

Any chance "catallac" is CatLax? Thats a cat laxative, available otc in the pet section at WalMart. Cats like the flavor so much they'll eat it even when they won't eat anything else.
I agree with the others - call the vet ER clinic to find out exactly what you need and where to get it.

UPDATED: Thank you all for your responses. As it turns out, Pommy was not constipated this time. Our Pommy Mommy instincts kicked in and we took him to the ER vet - he was really hurting. No constipation, but rather the same back injury that our sheltie mix had a few months ago. He was just so tensed up that his belly tightened up and we thought it was what we had experienced before. He had need of an enema in the past, so we thought it was the same thing. This particular injury does not show up on X-rays, so we're grateful the vet did a thorough exam.
At any rate, it's been a long night here and I feel just awful - If I had thought he was feeling poorly he would not have gone to the groomers today. As it is, he is now on the same two week restriction as Lazy girl was back in May/June. Fortunately, we have the right meds on hand to get us through the weekend and I can schedule a f/u with our regular vet. And this is my "mellow" dog who loves his kennel. Not like his sister who tore up her paw trying to get out of hers (thus resulting in a secondary injury), so keeping him still will be a lot easier.
Soooooo..... first thing tomorrow, the rugs are going back in the kitchen (pulled those out two weeks ago to clean and didn't get to it). That *&%#!! linoleum (pardon my language) has got to go. It is so slick it has now hurt both dogs and I've lost count of the number of times I've slipped. Fortunately, the Kitchen Contractor is also scheduled to come in tomorrow so we can finalize plans - and pick out a TEXTURED floor. Nothing slick.This message has been edited. So glad Pommy got the proper diagnosis and will be just fine with a little time. As difficult as it may have been, this is a clear example of why taking an ailing pet to a qualified vet rather than guessing based on previous experience from a layman/pet owner's perspective is the best course of action to take.
It might be after hours and cost a bit more but, sometimes, those are the hours that count.

You're right. We do not take chances with our pups and are fortunate that we can make decisions based on need and not on cost, location, or hours of operation. So many others do not have 24 hour services available. Also fortunate that the vet understood exactly why we thought it was constipation, but still gave him a good once over.
He is pretty miserable right now, but no longer shaking or crying. He's on the anti-inflamatory, but we will need to pick up the pain meds as well. Lazy didn't need those, but she's a trooper.
He loves his kennel so is hiding in there, but now I'm worried we'll have to find his lampshade. He gets sores in summer and is sitting in the kennel licking his feet. This is a seasonal thing and is ok if left alone. But if he is just sitting in there licking we'll need meds for that too.
And on top of everything else, DH found a flea on him, so I am cleaning and doing extra laundry. Fleas are not the norm here, so it is easy to control, but on top of everything else it is a bit inconvenient. They don't bother Lazy for some reason, but every year we find he has picked it up somewhere. They both got their dose of meds for that yesterday too, so the problem should resolve itself quickly.
