Hello Everyone:
I just wanted to start by saying thank-you to everyone that offered me kind words and support when our cat Abby died a few weeks ago...it has been rough but we are managing to get through this time. It seems we have a new problem with our 6 month old puppy. I noticed that our puppy Max has a small (1cm approx) lump on his rear right leg. He does not have one on the left leg so I knew it was something abmormal. It cannot be moved when you try and feel it, there seems to be an odd shape to it, more long then round and it appears to be attached to a root or something. The lump is very small and does not bother him at all. I brought Max into the vet as soon as I noticed the lump and she said that it's too small to put a needle in for a sample and that it would be very unusual for it to be something serious in a young puppy such as Max. Matter of fact, she said it would be so unusual for it to be cancer or anything that if it was they would probably write a journal about him if it was. She advised that we watch him for the next week and see if there is any change in size, shape, color ect... We have not noticed anything different but the lump is still there. The Dr. said it could be hives, a reaction or a cyst...Has anyone come across a similar situation before. The Dr. said that if we notice it getting bigger or red, any changes that they should remove it. Thanks for your help |

"Barby1," I can't help with the lump on your puppy's leg but it sound like your vet has given you good advice and it is just a situation that you need to monitor.
I'm glad that you posted back about Abby. I was one of those who posted then and I'm happy to hear that you and your family are dealing with it. It is never easy to do but, in time, the thought of her will bring smiles instead of tears.... |

Your vet's approach sounds very reasonable. Any vaccines in that area in the last month? Just be sure to get it rechecked if it is getting bigger.

Barby 1, I'm sorry to hear that your pup has a lump. Hopefully its nothing to worry about, your vet sounds optimistic.
I remember when Abby passed and I know its hard to deal with the loss of a pet. Pets leave such a deep impression in your heart... Time helps to lessen the pain of their departure. my 9 month had two of them, one on each leg. they looked like big warts.
my vet said that it's not unusal for puppies to have these growths, which are benign. there is a name for it, but I cannot remember. The vet said that they usually fall off without any intervention. And yes, a few weeks later, both of them are gone. |

I doubt the vet gave an injection in the muscle. Some vets do vaccinate under the skin(SQ) on the rear legs.

My dog is 7 y.o lab/husky mix he has a few of hard small lumps, I was told they were fatty tumors. He had something simular on his leg that I touched, and it must have hurt him he bit it off right down to the skin, took all the hair off, it looked terible, the vet said he had no idea what it was, I had to give him antibiotics and wash it with a solution, then apply and antibiotic powder and benadryl tabs, it has not come back,..Marianne

It could be acne. My lab-chow would get white heads and black heads and ****les just like a human, but with all that fur it was hard to tell what they were.
Do like your vet said - watch it, but don't worry about it unless it changes. ***************************** |

Spiffy: fatty tumors are beneath the skin. maybe your boy bit off a skin tag? |
