I see many bumper stickers & decals on cars... I love my XYZ, XYZ on board, etc. Saw one a day or two ago that just made me LAUGH!! NOTHING against the breed, but when I saw sign for BASSETT HOUND agility dog... HUH!! Think there must be agile ones but a LOT of that competition is based on SPEED??
For sure the professional competition is based on speed and doing everything right in the course. But I feel most owners who train some agility do it for the fun (the dog's enjoyment mostly).
I took one of our retrievers to an intro class of 3 sessions when she was 2, and she still remembers all the moves. (well we did not get the weave poles down pat) She perks right up (ten years old) when we go to a certain dog park with the tunnel, ramps, and ring jumps. She still loves to do the stuff.
I would say an owner who trained a Bassett to do most if not all the events, is excellent. Like you, I think most of the hound breeds would tend to be distracted and have their nose to the ground on a course? But good training is good for all involved!
