there's a lot of anxiety in my house and Aslan is like a barometer for it. I have Stage 0 DCIS (cancer in duct) and had surgery last Thursday that didn't fix it. Anyway, Aslan was very anxious when I got home and I had to give him a Xanax. Since then I've moved into the mastectomy mode in the next few weeks. When distress is in the home, the attention focuses on the person, while the animals are sort of left to figure it out. This morning Aslan and Prissy were outside playing, but things took a bad turn and he put her down. Jim found her cowering and in deep shock. He rushed her to the vet where she remains tonight and tomorrow. Bite marks on either side of her chest, fractured ribs and bruised lungs. She's critical but stable. She's on IV meds and taped up. She's alert and sitting up. I'm fine with my health issue, but I'm not fine with the possibility of losing my Prissy. I can't be mad at Aslan. He's always been gentle with her, but his anxiety is on full alert and I can't play with him or cuddle him. Tonight I'm going to pad up and do it anyway. Please p r a y for my little girl to make a full recovery. And remember when trauma hits home, your animals need to be supported, too.

Sandra my heart goes out to you and your furkids. I will keep Prissy close in my pra yers as well.
I have been very fortunate with my fout-legged kids. They always want to be very close when I am ill, but allow me to come to them when they need special attention during this time. I have been very fortunate when myself or my sin is ill. They do have a hard time not being overjoyed when we return, but luckily they alwats seem to know when it is ok to want special attention.
Best of luck to you hun. It is so hard sometimes for them and us wanting to give them the time and attention they need

Although I'm not a full-time poster and may not familiar to you, I want to add my prayers and positive thoughts to your list of well-wishers. You and Prissy will both be in my thoughts and prayers for complete and quick recoveries.

thanks everyone. She has been outside to do business! they said she could come home, so I went this afternoon to get her, but it was clear to me and the vet that she needs more care than I can provide. I'm still very tired and not supposed to be lifting much. she will need to be carried everywhere. she's very fragile and in a fair amount of pain. but she's bright eyed, and alert. I told the vet I would get her tomorrow and she said she would rather I leave her with them and to get myself some rest and pay Aslan some attention. Even if I could care for her, the stress of fretting would do me in. As for me, I'm fine. I feel like I'm cheating because my cancer is so very early that surgery will cure me on the spot. In honor of BC awareness mth, Prissy is wrapped all in hot pink. I told the vet, I'm aware!

Glad to hear that Prissy is stable for the time being but a bit confused here. You said that she went outside "to do her business" but you also stated that she will remain at the vet's until tomarrow when you plan to pick her up.
I've never heard of any vet facility that would let a cat go outside while under it's care so guess I missed something.... From the injuries you have described, Prissy is going to need some intensive care when she comes home: quiet safe place with water, food and a small litter box while she recuperates.
AND, no Aslan for the time being. Yes, I understand that this was out of character for him BUT the fact of the matter is that he did seriously injure Prissy ~ she needs to be protected from him while she recovers as I'm sure you already know. Do you have a secure place in your house for her OR can you make one? Doesn't have to be fancy - even a closet will do. Keep us up-dated; sending good thoughts.
you're confused for sure. Prissy is a dog. and I do know what she will need when she comes home. that's why I didn't bring her home. she's staying until Monday so she will be forced to be still and quiet. She's even better today. she's gobbling food! she will most likely be kept in the crate when she comes home to avoid temptation.

IR, apparently your state does not require cats be leashed when outside. In the city I live cats must be leashed when outside or stand the chance of being killed by the local goon who torture and kill them. WE have many cats that come in to the clinic and the owner ask us to "walk" their cats

LOL, Sandra, I was confused ~ thought Prissy was a new cat! Hard to keep everyone's pets straight. Glad she will be able to come home on M and hope she continues to improve everyday....
Right, S-M, no cat leash laws here although the cats would probably be safer if there were.
Sandra, I'm sorry to hear of you and Prissy's issues. Sending thoughts and pra yers for both of you! I hope Prissy gets to come home Monday and that things will be well! Glad to hear she's doing better and eating!
We don't have Cat Leash Laws here either and I wish we did!
Skipper finally started looking for Prissy last night. He must have thought he was getting a break while she was at girl's night out. Today I'll prepare her "hospital" area. Clean the crate, cozy bed and blankies, and a new toy.
