Boom is a 4 year old Bull Terrier who gets way too excited. I have given him private lessons, positive reinforcement , negative reinforcement, everything!!!!! He desimating my aezala by the front door because he gets so excited when we go for a walk, its like he has so much energy he can't control himself and bites ah unk of branch off we have another BT who is older and female that is nowhere as crazy. Anyhow today was the limit - we go out the door for a ride and my SUV was in the driveway and before I could do anything Boomer had leaped up on to the hood of the car scambling and scratching. It concerns me that he was so wound up he did not realize there was no open door. He could have hurt himself. 20 minutes later I'm screaming at him, but he caught a baby robin. I know that is nature, but it was the last straw. Oh, I also think he is so wound up he then gets the squirts. What can I do?

have you talked to your vet? when i first read your post, i thought he was 4 months old, not 4 years. oh my, you've got your hands full! does he stay crated for any length of time? I guess what I'm getting at is he might need more exercise than he's getting. I had a boxer that was like that...until she was about 1 year and a half and finally calmed down. I'm not sure what i would have done for 4 years! Hopefully someone on the board will have some experience and good advice.

Sounds like Boomer needs leash training. This would control the jumping and damage to azalea bush. Some retraining to define the dog's boundaries is in order. More crate training may be needed to establish indoor boundaries and behaviors. Discuss the problems with your vet.

Get your dog a treadmill. A tired dog is a happy, calm, relaxed dog. Really, I'm not kidding. Whenever my 4yr old GSD gets too hyper, it's onto the treadmill for a half hour. After that all I hear is his snoring.

It sounds like your dog is acting out because he’s bored. Terrier breeds are very active dogs and often long daily walks won’t satisfy their exercise needs. Have you considered getting your dog involved in a dog sport. If you dog like chasing tennis balls, he might like flyball. If he likes freebees he could try disc dog. My dog really likes agility and backpacking. It doesn’t have to be expensive and you don’t have to complete if you don’t want too. It’s a great way for you get a little exercise too.
