Does anyone use Fish Oil capsules for their cats? My vet suggested I use it for my dogs and it has helped Molly's coat tremendously. I'm just wondering how it would affect my cat!

Ask your vet for a safe amount/dose? Cannot think of a common reason for it not to be fine, other than too much/over dose that would cause diarrhea. Our dogs had dry/flaky skin (dry mountain climate issue), but once I started putting a bit of just common canola oil on their kibble, that skin issue is no longer present.

Thanks conrad, I did ask my vet if I could give the fish oil to my cat and she said that she doesn't recommend it. Mue, your kitty may like tuna food, but mine does not! He just doesn't like FISH. I've never heard of a cat who doesn't like fish.

I have one cat who is on a diet. The vet told me to put fish oil on his food to protect his liver while he is loosing weight. He refuses to eat it. I asked about fish oil capsules. The vet said no. Not because of the oil. The capsules are so large they might get stuck on the way down.

YEARS ago, Dad had a black lab mix who always had dry/itchy skin... in warm weather. Vet recommended a few TBSP of STINKY cod liver oil on his dry food. Dog LOVED it and would have probably just lapped it up by bowlful is allowed to. Have had several big goofy dogs over the years, and now of them ever thought about turning up there noses over a few TBSP of melted bacon grease over their dry stuff. KNOCKING ON WOOD, but June, the cat, doesn't have any special dietary needs. BUT her eyes roll back in her head when she get to lick out the can from tuna in oil!

at the clinic we mix olive oil or yogart into out long haired "clinic" cats food all the time. He was pretty dry when he came tro us. Now he has the softest and beautiful fur **************************** "Don't accept your dog's admiration as conclusive evidence that you are wonderful." What about the olive oil drained off tuna? KNOW June would not hesitate to lap it up but also realize that (if OK to do) should be doled out sparingly.
