OK - holiday question: What do you tip the groomer?

We went yesterday and she gave us a gift - just a little snack basket - and we didn't even think of it being the holidays, etc.

Do you tip the groomer or give a gift?

Well, I don't have a groomer but think it falls into the category of other individuals who work for a portion of the set fee charged and tips.

If she/he has done a good job throughout the year and taken extra steps to take care of your furry-family member, by all means, leave a tip at the end of the year which coincides with the holidays.

Myself, I would probably slip a $20 bill inside a Christmas card and give it to her/him directly so as not to have the gift reduced by management taking an automatic share...

Thanks IR - she works for a chain so I don't think management addresses "tips".

She does a great job (in fact, we just got back from the vet and the vet complimented the potty path!) and knows the dogs by name, so I'd like to do something. Cookies at least.

I agree with you but wouldn't do cookies ~ think cash would be appreciated more. After all, she is working to earn a living so you know she would appreciate money. You could put it in a box of cookies if you like!

Cash is the best and most appreciated as the tippee can buy herself a little sumpin' of her choosing or stuff it in a piggy bank. 10%-20% is normal for each visit or a one-time 100%! Just make sure you give it to her personally.....no corporate sharing/grinch manager snooping around

I'd tip a groomer same as I would a restaurant server - 20% for excellent service. But, if your dog is groomed by one specific person on a monthly basis, a C-mas gift would be appropriate.
Because my pupper doesn't require professional grooming, in the winter he gets a warm bath & quick towel dry at our local self-serve "Splash Dog"....no tip required - unless I'm too lazy to trim his nails myself

Only grooming June needs is a mani-pedi every 6-8 weeks or so. I go to Petsmart... no appointment necessary, just have to make sure a "cat" person is there, and only $9! Looks SOOOO simple with 2 people... often done by the time I've finished paying... a 2 person job?? I always tip $2-3 for the quick, efficient, and trauma-free job.
