My fixed 1 yr. old cat has blood in her urine. She won't use the litter box, she prefers to use the tub. Any ideas? I am calling the vet tomorrow.

She might have a bladder infetction. Give us an update after your vet visit.

That is a sure indication of a bladder infection. You don't have time to wait until tomorrow. Get her to the vet NOW. I know what i am speaking of. My male, Judah is prone to them. I don't know why he does it, but he pees blood in the tub ans sink when it happens. And I'm glad he does. It's my cue to get him to the vet ASAP because the next step is a blocked urethra and bladder which causes death if not opened immediately.

We got up to a bloody tub and sink Tues morning. Was at the vet with him when they opened and he spent the night to make sure he didn't have a blockage in the works. So far he hasn't.

Please get your cat care immediately. You don't know what condition she might be in when you get up in the morning if you don't.

I agree with Becky56 ~ this is an emergency situation where time is of the essence. If you can't reach your regular vet (why do emergencies always seem to happen after-hours or on the weekends? ), please take your cat to the nearest 24 hour emergency center ~ and please us know the outcome. Sending good thoughts your way....

I think it is his way of letting you know something is wrong since you would never notice the blood if he used the litter box. I had a cat that did the same thing and sure enough he had a bacterial infection that some antibiotics cleared right up.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. It was a bladder infection & with medication she is doing much better. Thank all of you for your help & prayers. She very special to me cuz I pick her up as a stray from someone last year on christmas eve.My other cat I got when my neighbor threw her out because she was "shedding". Hello?! Animals do that. But she so good too. I also have 2 dogs & I love them all. Thanks again.

Thanks so much for the post back, richsangel, and glad that it was only a bladder infection which most of us surmised. Good for you to get her to the vet promptly and administer the antibiotics ~ great thing those antibiotics!

Glad you adopted the "cat that sheds" from a very stupid and ignorant individual ~ she doesn't deserve to be a cat-owner OR, as is PC, owned by a cat....

Thank you all for your help. Now I need to figure out how to keep them off the tree. It's artifical & not decorated yet but they both like to climb up the middle of the tree, look to see if I'm watching them and then meow at me like crazy. My fiance' says I am a crazy cat lady. Whatever they grow on ya!!

richsangel, You'll need to train the cats to stay off the tree the same way you train them to stay off anything else ~ 100% consistency whenever they get where you don't want them to be by verbally letting them know it IT IS NOT OKAY TO BE THERE, physically removing them if necessary and then re-directing their attention to an "okay" area - a Cat Laser Light works great to accomplish this....

I filled a small squirt bottle with water & that seems to work. I will try the laser light. I have one but haven't used it in awhile.

richsangel, I completely disagree with using a water squirt bottle on any cats ~ a terrible idea that destroys any trust your cats may have in you and makes a mess of your house and contents as well. Please reconsider using that method....

There are much better ways to accomplish your goal!
