Isn't there a site that has quilt patterns or suggestions for baby quilts when the baby didn't survive? I thought I had a link saved, but I can't seem to locate it now.
Your help would be most appreciated. Cry

so sad and i difficult time. that is what my little groups make...depends on the size of the little Angel. i make them 12 x 12 usually. the mom receives the baby in the little quilt or shroud..and she gets the quilt in a little keepsake box when she is discharged.

Preemie shroud / blankets and hats (Patterns)

5 lbs is almost full term, and we make those about 15 to 20" square.

Thanks for sharing the Care Wear site. In addition to the burial items, they also have patterns for hospital dolls, etc. Under Patterns they have recently released the 2012 free downloadable pattern book. The newsletters show pictures of items the nationwide group has made and frequently has patterns for the tiniest of the infants.

Care Wear is an excellent organization. The little group i am apart of, is Michigan Knit and Crochet. we make these items and the tiny hats, for the local maternity ward. My crocheting is pretty rough looking, so i use the sewing patterns.
i would just like to add, i showed my neighbor what we were making, and she started crying, she had lost a baby, and there was nothing like this for her,at that time..25 years ago. She was so touched by the efforts of people making these kind of things..
i will check out the new downloadable pattern book! Thanks!

Thanks for being part of an active charitable group.

Care Wear is headquartered in my home town, Frederick MD. I believe the local group meets twice a year for a sew-a-thon in addition to the small groups and individuals. I've occasionally donated excess fabric so that the ladies who have the skill can continue stitching. There's even a senior's facility in Frederick that will provide the stuffing so their residents can stuff and sew closed items to be donated to the hospital and one day I hope to provide some "to be stuffed" dolls, etc. and do two good works at the same time. However, we all know which road good intentions pave.

My sympathies to you, Karen.

Last year when my daughter delivered early her stillborn baby girl (14 weeks) I made a "soft box" for them to keep any keepsakes in. I put embroidered designs on the top and inside the top (B!ble verses that had her name in them) and put a zipper around the opening so nothing would ever get lost. I made it about 9 x 11 so paper would fit in too.

Thank you all for your kind words. I'm so grateful to have this group of friends who always have answers, whatever the need.

I was able to make the perfect thing and our kids asked me to make another for them to keep.

It's sad so many of us have this kind of loss in common.

Karen, I'm so sorry about your loss. My son and his wife lost a baby boy too. Although they now have other children, we still miss Joshua.

Oh I am so sad for all the grief of the families who've lost babies. I didn't know they did this sort of thing and am happy to know someone does. Peace.

Isn't wonderful how crafters can take their pain and make something special to ease that pain? I'm glad you found what you wanted/needed.

Caring thoughts and hugs for you and your family.
