Quilt pro quo is turning weight loss into quilts! Those of us who want to keep motivated to eat less, eat healthier and feel trimmer and better are weighing in once a week and making blocks or other "quilty rewards" when we achieve our goals. If you already have your own goals and pace feel free to share those or just post your quilt blocks.
Otherwise, pick your day and time to weigh once a week. If you want to post your weight here for motivation and to keep you on track feel free to do so. If not, write it in a journal, PM a friend, whatever works for you. If you aren't doing 1 block, 1 pound then write down your bonuses, your inches for blocks rules, your double wins, your dollar jar and anything else you are putting in place. I'll post a new thread each Tuesday, share your losses and your gains, and your block pics with us each week. This board seems very supportive so when 'life happens' share it and get back in the swing of things the next day. Here's a link to the thread that started it off : http://boards.hgtv.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5894011632/m/4991019763 and week2 threads: http://boards.hgtv.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5894011632/m/5381052963/p/1 http://boards.hgtv.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5894011632/m/1051008963 Keep up the fun all, and don't forget to post those quilt block pics Those of us who didn't get to make a block this week need the inspiration. |

Last week I gained a pound, this week I lost it again. I'm determined to get more exercise in this week so I can make another pound vanish and get a quilt block in its place! How's everyone else doing?

Can't weigh in this week. I am at my daughter's house working my behind off getting her condo livable.
Hopefully scraping wallpaper burns off lots of calories. |

Jane-do you feel like a Yo yo! But you have to look at it this way-You lost this week and you will say goodbye to that pound next week when you lose another. Good Job!! Here's your dance--
Yes Theresa-You are losing weight by scrapping. That is the reason I will never wall paper in my house again. "Shoot for the Moon! Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars!!" ![]() |

Theresea, scrapping wallpaper burns appox. 60 calories for every 15 minutes (according to fitday.com) Every little bit counts!

Got my 2 miles in, so here I am on the board. Thank goodness for the ipod. It makes it easier to walk, especially in this heat down here.

Hi i've been really quiet, must have been stuffing my fave with food.. I have not lost a lb. I think I have to step it up a notch. Some of you girls have been doing so good, I just know how hard it is to stick to it so hats off to all you winners.

It's only 72 out there at the moment so I just took a 2 mile walk on my 'lunch' break. Hopefully can fit some time in on the rowing machine at the gym later this week. Of course I need to finish up my Sunshine Quilter blocks first! http://boards.hgtv.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5894011632/m/9161054863

Wow Jane - our low temps don't even go that low any more! While the rest of the country had winter, we were enjoying pretty nice weather. Now, we pay for it...it's hot!

My weight in day was Monday & I am down 5 pounds!!!! I have been trying to make wiser choices & cut back a little on the amount. Denied myself chocolate bars, & drank several glasses of water each day (small glasses) Got out for a walk a couple of times & for incentive I did a fair bit of shopping & trying on clothes. All the cute styles are made to fit normal size people & I think they design the ugly clothes to fit the rest of us. What a wake up call when you can't get into a size that was once way too big on you. My DD is also making an effort & doing well so that encourages me to put some effort into it. I think my blocks that I will be making will go towards a quilt for her.
Now comes the hard part. Keeping that 5 off & getting more off with it. I think it is a good idea someone posted about setting the little goals. I have to get about 50 pounds off, so with 5 off my immediate target is another 5. ![]() |

Lilly -I am smiling from ear to ear for you!! You go girl. So proud of you. And you even have your own happy dancer. I to would love to lose 50 pounds but 5 at a time would be ideal. That way I'm not making blocks all week!!!

Congratulations Lilly!! 5 lbs !! That's great.
And way to go Jane getting that lb back off! OK, I'm scared...my weigh in is tomorrow & I'm guessing I've either not lost anything or actually gained! I might just drink water today - yeah right! I'm definitely going to be good today though. |

Hurrah Lilly!!! Wiser choices and drinking more water sounds a really sensible way to go about this, especially adding the exercise into the mix. That's what I have been trying to do, some soy milk instead of coca cola, fruit instead of chocolate etc. Someone else posted not to go overboard on fruit but I find i get too lightheaded and odd if I don't get a reasonable amount of sugar, and fruit sugar has got to be better than refined candy sugar lol. what a nice idea to make the quilt for someone else
Fatquarters and Joy - we're all in the same boat and rooting for ya, so keep up the good work and over time it will make a huge difference. Jbk - 72 was a wonderful change from the record temps we've had for early June. Even with AC on I didn't quilt for almost a week, was just too darn hot to want to do anything. GL getting through the summer over your way. Jane_Kiwi ![]() |

OK Jane-Kiwi-explain the picture???!!! Please tell me that's not celery. My weigh in is tomorrow too. And like Joy-I'm nervous!! Drinking lots of water, eating more veggies(not celery) and fruit, and still not eating anything after 7:30. Did alot of weeding yesterday. Finally got some nice weather. Going to go get some plants and do alittle gardening today. Then it's back to sewing!!!

jbk, I would never move a step without my ipod! I've never been a fan of Apple products until this one. Now I have two ipods, the old nano for walking and a video for travelling.
Well done Lilly! That's wonderful. One option I've seen is the "10%" rule -- the goal is to lose 10% of what you're trying to lose (which makes your 5 really appropriate). Then when you've reached the first goal, go for 10% of your new weight loss goal. It kind of takes into account that it's harder to lose weight the lighter you get. fatquarters, sometimes it takes time for the weight loss to show up on the scales. So many things can affect it! Just keep going and you will see the results. Good luck joy, you might do better than you think! I eat pizza most Friday nights (which is why I've moved my weigh-ins to Friday mornings, LOL!) For some reason my dh doesn't really think that homemade wholewheat crust pizza is appropriate (but he doesn't have a weight problem either). Jane, well done on losing the pound! From what I've read the extra fiber in the fruit keeps them from causing a spike in blood sugar. (Along with the many other diets I've tried or at least researched is the low-GI diet and that's their take on it.) I've got my double wedding ring top nearly put together, which means I can start thinking about my Sylvia quilt for losing weight! (It will also take a couple of weeks for the batting and backing to get here. I really didn't plan ahead.) I'm thinking red/white/blue and maybe some green. Just can't decide on the block size yet. expatquilter, if you are going to use the Sylvia patterns, I wouldn't go smaller on the blocks. Some of them have some tiny pieces when made in the 6 in. size. But that may just be me. I'm not a paper piecer. I think that is why it has been so easy for me to put Sylvia aside so many times.

Expatquilter- As another one who made the Sylvia quilt, I've got to say- 6" blocks are WAY small enough- some of the paper pieced blocks have finished pieces under 1"!
Congratulations, lily!!! In the last two weeks I have lost a total of 3 pounds. Tomorrow is my weigh-in day. I'll have to weigh in before the NQA show and lunch with all my HGTV buddies!!!LOL!! (I bought mini-eclairs in case we need extra treats! The past 4 days now I've been walking without stopping (on my treadmill) for a full half hour each day. Don't ask how far or how fast- suffice it to say, a snail might be able to pass me in the dust!! But, I'm hopeful! pat |

Are you going to be good tomorrow? I wish I could be going to this lunch. I would love to meet everyone. Are you going to take pictures? Have fun.

Still cant weigh in. Not scraping off wallpaper anymore. Now I am climbing up and down a ladder and trim painting. That should be worth some calories, right?

Woohoo you bunch of losers. Theresa scraping and climbing ladders is definitely exercise. I lost half a pound this week. I guess working out every day this last week is finally starting to pay off. Now I'm off to do my Turbo Jam.

Fatquarters & Others Do not get discouraged. My scale showed an increase before I had my loss. A big increase. Frightened the Beejeepers out of me. Thats what got me to take this seriously. We make the decision if we are going to sew or not & we have to take responsibility for the things we buy & eat too. I am trying not to eat (much) after hours & the one thing I have given up completely is potato chips. As for chocolate, if I don't buy it, I can't eat it.
But please don't tempt me by putting a chocolate bunny near me. My willpower is only just so strong. ![]() |
