Welcome to the 2012 Stashbusting Thread.

I am Gonesewin and I will be starting a new thread for each month for everyone to post pictures (If at all possible) or tell about your stashbusting efforts. It does NOT have to be quilting! This can be any kind of sewing!

There are just 2 rules to join us: what you make make should be mostly from stash and it should be finished during the month you post it as finished. There are no signups, or swapping or... Just this thread. Everyone is welcome!

cksvett has graciously volunteered to send out surprises each month. Your name will be entered each month when you show or tell us about your stashbusted project. On the first of the month when I start a new thread, someone from my family will draw a name and the winner will be posted on that new thread. If your name is drawn please send your mailing information to cksvett so your surprise can be mailed to you.

New This Year ! Royalboomer has graciously volunteered some of her "extras" as prizes too! So what I am going to do is this: Those who finish bigger projects or do multiples of 5 smaller items from stash will also be put into a separate drawing and one will be awarded a prize from Royalboomer each month!

Cool Beans, huh?

SEW, let the stashbusting continue!

Gonesewin'.. beautiful quilt.

Here's what I was working on the last couple weeks. Finally finished it today, It's an adaptation of the Summer Banner that Marion2 links us to the free site daily. Finally I have something for Mary and June for the front door.

Gonesewin - loved your quilt when I saw it for voting and still do!

Elainetoo, I've saved that pattern and would love to do it. Was it hard? Did you use all cottons?

Lori, your quilt is beautiful and it looks like someone is saying this is mine and you can't have it!

Elainetoo, what a beautiful adaptation of the banner. Clever!

Here's the great stashbusting box I won for April! It had some gorgeous blue snowflake material, two green/blue FQ, a book of fabroc boxes, two magazines, a spool wallhanging pattern, a little iron, FMQ gloves, and 4 blocks of a beautifully colored string block quilt. ( I love it! Do I get the rest of this quilt later? LOL ) Love everything in the box!

On to more stashbusting!

Wowsy .. May is off to a great start .. that quilt is beautiful .. looks pretty hard though, adn the wall hanging is really cute.. good job ..
and that BOX looks like it was fun Smile
Thought I'd add a picture ... these are for the wonderful gal that did the flute concert for Kai and played again at her memorial service. They are microfiber - it's 2 towels and the one with the diagonal strip is sort of a cleaning cloth. Everything is stash except that dark not-ruby piece.
Those Prairie Points are made all in one strip, no special tools ... easy.

I did Bonnie Hunter's Orca Bay mystery, but changed it up a little. I put blue where she had red and red where she had blue (had more blue than red scraps). Also, there were supposed to be black and white pieced triangles (like in the border) on either side of my blue stip triangles, but I put white. I also made it a bit smaller - left off one column on the side and have enough to make a baby quilt out of the leftovers.

I really like your Orca Bay quilt McPatches.

The mug rug is cute and the towels are a clever idea to dress them up.

AngelaC- nice mug rug and you'll love your new knee!! Good luck with that tomorrow!! (I have 2 of them!!)

Nice towels, CitySandie! How is that microfiber to work with?

Elainetoo- that banner looks wonderful, but intricate and hard to do!!! I have a door that it would fit! Wink

Lori- I love your Summer Daze quilt- where have I seen that pattern before and drooled over it? I remember thinking that it looked WAY too hard for me to do! You are the master!!!

Finally, I have a quilt top finished! My 100-patch quilt! Used 1824 two inch squares (all from stash as was the sashing!)

It may be a week or two before it is quilted. Roll Eyes

Oh gosh! That Zentangle brings back memories from over 50 years ago (sorry to say it was that long)in art class. Our art teacher was trying to inspire us to be "free thinkers" by having us free form draw (scribble)an unbroken line around and across again and again. Then we had to fill it in with different colors in each section made by the line. It was one of my favorite art projects and I used to have my kids do it at home. Teaches good color placement lessons, etc. Maybe I will try this when I get my new machine. Looking for one with a needle threader and up/down. Can't decide.

Great projects ladies! Beautiful work, keep up the good work.

Quiltnanny- Red Face . Trust me, I am in no way a queen of quilting!!! The quilts I make are easy piecing!

While raising 11 kids, I found that I needed to find things that were:
A.easy to do,
B.fast to do,
C.inexpensive and
D.deceptive when finished so that people would think the finished product must be really difficult to do!!

(Kind of like the old commercial where the mom makes the Rice Krispie treats and throws flour all over herself before she leaves the kitchen so everyone will appreciate how hard she worked!! Wink )

That would be me!!!

Now, you and everyone else who might not have already figured this out know the truth!! Red Face

EekWOW Eek!!!!! AWESOME projects posted already!!

Here's a charity quilt I made. It wasn't my stash but think it counts...I was given a BIG box of pre-cut strips....some of this fabric is OLD!! I've already donated this and didn't get a finished pic. I pieced the center strip but it doesn't show up as well as I thought it would.

I'm also working on a scrappy log cabin...from this box & will post pic's when I get the top done. I just need to decide on what borders I want to add on it.

I still have LOTS of strips from this box...doesn't look like I used any! Eek Roll Eyes

Once again, lots of pretties!!!!

My church will be having a craft booth in July, so I will be donating these tissue holders, plus not sure what else I will make. Figured since we live in a very small town, small, inexpensive things may sell better. But, who knows!!

All fabric from stash!

Here are 100 HSTs, 2" finished, made on paper (and a little bag of 20 that I kept out for myself) they're for a swap in the charity group I quilt with ,,, we were required to use the papers method so they were all alike - not everyone in the group is accomplished. Every piece is from stash. I thought it tedious, buuut ... Wink
oh ...just saw it .. that little bag on the left is the practice sets I just did from the tute that STM180 posted .. ha, that's 16 more for me!

Rainy day calls for sewing, right? Big Grin

Well, I finished piecing together the scrappy log cabins...not sure IF it needs a border OR what border to put on it? [I hung this on the clothes line sideways & took this pic between the rain showers] Any border suggestions are greatly appreciated? [I'll be starting another thread for suggestions, also] It measures 62.5" x 78" right now...

eta: the only cutting I did was the white center sq & sashing and the cornerstones. Oh yeah and I had to cut the right length when sewing the blocks.

I would say a border might depend on what you plan on doing with this quilt.

If you are going to use for just out on the couch it would be fine as is. If you have plans to put it on a bed it will depend on how much hang it needs to have over the sides if you should add more.

I think even a white border with a scrappy binding would be nice.

Sewlove2quilt- isn't that amazing that you can make a nice size project and yet you still have so many strips left over (for another project! Wink )!!! Definitely happens at my house too!!!

CitySandie- your HSTs in the box look SO organized!! I'm jealous!!! My shoeboxes and plastic drawers full of squares, etc. are always crammed full and never look neat & tidy like that!!!

I'm 15 blocks into a 25 block scrap granny square baby quilt that will be about 40" square. It uses more 2" squares!! (How can it be that I still have some left from the 100 charm square quilt???)

It is using up 325 scrappy squares and 300 white ones. I still have MORE 2" squares left!!!!

Hopefully, it will be done this weekend!

Here to join my big Orca Bay is baby Orca Bay. I made this with the leftovers from the big quilt (all blocks were already sewn per the mystery instructions). Since I was tired of all black and white, I added a red polka dot border from stash. It finished at about 54"x 42".
