Brother Sewing Machine
Does anyone out there have the Brother XR1300?
It only weights 13 pounds and I am thinking it would be great to take to classes and retreats.
Would appreciate any comments pro/con.
Thanks,

i have had good luck with brothers. they are lightweight and very easy to use and inexpensive. shop around for a cheaper price. sometimes u can find them in target or walmart. perfect machine to bring to class.

Thanks so much! I found it on line at Costo for $169. Not a bad price.

I have the Brother CS6000i for classes, etc. DGD's also use that one whenever they are here to sew. It's been a real trooper and I'm glad I bought it. It is very lightweight as well - my main machine at the time was very heavy and I hated to take a class 'cause I would have to lug it around. This one did the trick....bought it at WalMart - they had a superb return policy.

I also have the Brother CS6000i, and it has served me well. Lightweight, does everything I need, 60 stitches built in. Balks a bit with very thick seams. The default needle placement when turned on is to the left so I always need to remember to set it to stitch 01 or 37.

Royal, Longjohn, that is the machine I bought for my grandaughter for Christmas, haven't had a chance to really check it out because she has been so busy working. I told her I'd give her sewing lessons, and I've been waiting patiently (NOT) for her to call and ask. I'll remember about the default needle position. Thanks. Pat

I had DGD go through each and every stitch selection on a sampler piece of muslin so she would get the "feel" for the machine - she thought it was cool that the needle moved but at least she always checks to see where it is now Smile And, she picked out her favorites at the same time Smile
