DH and I visited with DS and family this weekend. While there, DDIL took me to the new quilt shop where she is now working. Of course, 7 year old DGD went along. I have a pattern in mind that I'm looking for fabric for but nothing was jumping out at me for it. I noticed that Clarissa kept going back to the shelf of black and white fabrics. When I asked her if she liked those fabrics, she pointed to one in particular that she liked. So we picked out a pattern and I let her choose some coordinating fabrics. I'll use these with some black/white from my stash.
That's a very sophisticated fabric (the b&w) for a little girl to pick out! And the colors you picked to go with it are gorgeous. Gonna be lovely when done.

she's a designer!!!
"It's bad to supress laughter. It goes back down and spreads to your hips."
Gosh..great choices...and if you have left over fabric they are perfect for a Twister pattern.Bet she would love that pattern too.
I think it's great to get her interested at a young age. She did a great job picking out fabrics.
"Use what talents you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best."

Looks like she has a natural eye for color/design.
"People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within." Elizabeth Kubler-Ross
Could I borrow her for my next trip to the LQS?
Does this hat make my butt look big?
Your DGD has a great color eye for a 7yr old. I'll bet she likes to draw and color, too. I would love to see some of her quilts when she gets older. Love the fabric combination she came up with.
I have to know which company made the center fabric & what it's called! Love the pink & green with the black.
You will update us on this as you work on it right?!!! That is going to be a fun quilt - maybe I need to go shopping now too!!!!
I like that kids have no fear of colour - why do we quetion ourselves when making these kinds of decisions?? Granted, they are pulled together with the green and pink being in the black & white fabric, but would we - any of us - picked those colours to go together if they weren't?? Yet, they would work as a team even if they were't already in the b&w fabric.
That pattern you shown will be great!!! Can hardly wait to see it in progress!!! Thanks for sharing this story! Fun!!!
Thanks everyone for you nice comments about Clarissa's fabric choices. Her whole family is artistic in various ways - 13 year old is very good at drawing, all sing and dance and perform in community theater. Our older DGD chose great fabrics for the quilt I made her when she was about 12. Even the boys do a good job of choosing colors to go together.
Starry, I had to laugh when I looked at the selvedge to get the info you asked for. It says "13 going on Thirty by Maywood Studio". Clarissa is 7 going on 16 so this struck me as funny.
I'm sure anxious to start but will probably not be able to for a couple of weeks. I'll be sure to show you pics as I go.
WOW, picking colors is the hardest part for me when making a quilt. Can I borrow Clarissa the next time I start a quilt? She did fantastic!
We live in the home of the free...because of the brave.
Great selection of fabrics... Chris
