Time to sketch & head out to Mood! Tonight we sew for women who aren't the usual PR models. Who will be the first designer to have a meltdown about sewing clothes that aren't size 0? And will someone ask Tim to explain cup sizes again (and I don't mean latte cups....)? Stay tuned!

Oh and one thing I've been meaning to ask/discuss: Did you catch, a few episodes ago, when someone mentioned using the "Merrow" machine? I assumed it was a serger, but wondered why they didn't say serger. Had to look it up -- interesting -- so that's what an industrial overlock machine looks like. I had never heard of that brand name before PR.

From what I can gather online, the company is based in Massachusetts & the machines cost 2 arms & 2 legs.

Before there were sergers, there was the merrow machine. It is used in the manufacturing of clothing, linens, etc. so you don't generally see them in private homes.

What I like about things that are merrowed is you can generally find one thread and pull all the stitching out unlike most sergered items.

Now why is it we can no longer mention the name of this design show in the topic title?

One must give one's body for it????!!!!! Eek
It seems to me those seams are rounder than serged seams.

Not up to par, eh? I've still got 45 min before I can see it...they probably don't like designing for larger sizes (than 0)

ok, now I'm 1/2 way through and I agree with Alana re: Ven. "I've lost respect for him".

humph...he needs his mouth stuffed with a piece of fabric....

eta again....Gunner was adorable! with his client, and the other top 2 made beautiful changes in theirs (the clients loved their looks). And I LOVED how the judges enjoyed them walking the runway. That was really fun to see them delighted and having a good time. Their comments were amazing, too. That part was really fun.

I think the wrong person went home.

And the beautiful English judge querying about "hootchie Mama" was hilarious.

Except for Ven, I really enjoyed this show.

Yep... No matter how good of a designer he is, Ven should have gone home! His outfit was uglier than the one that went home because his heart wasn't in it...

and to top it off... he ISN'T the thinnest thing this side of Atlanta himself!!!!!!!

How dare he!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you Nancy. I liked Ven's skirt but not the blouse. Sinisha? prob. not spelled right but her dress was off, off, off. From a viewer's point of view there was nothing technically wrong with Nathan's dress. How do you know how to dress a rock/blues star? Every one of them dresses differently!!
I thought the gray dress was cute with its assymmetry and color-blocking but it was a bit long and made her look clunky as she walked.
I didn't like the bodice on Gunner's dress but I can imagine what MINE would look like if I only had a day to come up with it.

Also the dress that was teal that the judges really liked on the blonde girl IMHO was too short and too tight.

I too am tired of Ven. Attitude and complete disregard for the client. At the end I felt really sorry for the two gals-the one wanted a special day for her friend and they didn't get it.

I thought the one that won was too long. I liked Dimitri's-but a little tight. I liked how most of the designers really listened to the girls and what they wanted. The nightclub one was made for that and why didn't the judges know that. That's happened before.

You could have sent them ALL home last night & I'm not sure I would have missed any one of those designs. Well, maybe Dmitry's. His was practical ("She could sleep in it!"), his girl looked great, but I agree that the neckline could have been a tad lower. Kudos to him for erring on the side of caution there. How often have we cringed when the dresses have plunged way too low? I agree that dress could have been a little looser in the caboose & stomach areas, but she still looked good.

Fabio's manipulation of the different fabrics was interesting, but I thought the dress was sack-like, too long, and accessorized oddly. But the judges liked it & they're the ones who have the final say, so there's your winner. Fabio's own dress (that he was wearing) wouldn't have won, though!

I would have liked to have seen Christopher's grey dress & jacket more, especially the jacket. And the black dress with the long scarf (Melissa?) - wish we could have seen more of that one, too.

Sonjia's blue "knot" dress wouldn't have been so bad if the knot had fit properly & the dress had been a little longer. I thought it flattered her figure, but the Fashion Police said no.

Gunnar's model had fun in her black dress, but just wait til she tries to wash it the first time and those hundreds of squares of fabric with raw edges all fray in the washer... This is an ongoing issue that irks me about the show. Practicality of an outfit often goes out the window for the sake of dramatic design.

And speaking of things that do or should go out the window....we have Ven. I lost track of how many times he put his foot in his mouth. His behavior was horrendous, as was that blouse. The length & fullness of the sleeves cut her off at the waist. That style would not be flattering on any woman. I think his "one way monkey" trick of gathering & folding fabric just failed him. Maybe they can give him a trip to charm school when they AUF him?

I'm waiting to see if Betty White tweets that despite what MK might think, she doesn't wear long sheer sleeves! Big Grin

YeaAAh!!!! The were some male designers from previous years that surely would have given him what for!!!! If he would just keep his mouth shut and opinions to himself.....Eek

The judges comment that the top 3 designers really listened to their clients needs was helpful.

I liked the show but wonder why Ven wasn't sent home, both for attitude and design. I would hope they would offer the customer another dress by a different designer. It will be difficult to see upcoming episodes without remembering how Ven reacted in this one. I did like the gray dress, must have been a bear to make
