Kim
I've even seen patterns with all different sizes used - more like a shadow box effect to showcase a collection vs looking out of a window.

Yeah, I like the idea of different sized windows, after all...All windows aren't square. I have been having fun working on DH's quilt design for the windows and his wildlife fabric, all I can say is it's been interesting and fun.

what method are you using for the corners?

i am not going to try to do the set in seams for the corners, i am going to put in HST's instead..those i can do..the other, well, not so much!

i also like the way they did them on the videos, sew the strips together first, then add them to the block..

Kim, I was in Omma's Attic Window Block Swap for winter, here is the link to the site we used, and it was with the HST's otherwise I couldn't have joined, they go together pretty easy, I'd do a test block on scrap fabric before using your horse windows Smile I think I measured wrong, but my first one was a bit off, worked it out though, of course I'm a newbie, so unless I do at least 2 test blocks successfully, I don't feel confident, and I wanted the other swappers to be pleased with my work.

Also I've been playing with hubbies quilt blocks trying to get my layout to where I like it...used my winter blocks from the swap to lay my wildlife windows on to get an idea, but the only catch to this is some windows are on their side, so I have to be careful of the placement and make sure to sew them accordingly. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure yet Kim, our bed is queen sized, but it has an extra deep pillow top mattress, and I love a nice overhang on a quilt, so I'll make it 72 X 90 with blocks and then maybe add some nice borders to finish it off to the needed size, but I have a feeling it'll be a bear cat to quilt, I may have to resort to handquilting, if so DH ain't gunna get it for christmas, maybe by his birthday in Feb. Frown unless I can find someone locally to do it Smile

what don't you quilt it is sections? i think "mile a minute" quilt book, has directions. i think it is done in 20 inch sections..you cut the batting in 20" strips, the length of the quilt, and you just quilt that section, then add another strip of batting.
I know that big of a quilt would not fit under the sewing arm on mine..
i will have to see if i still have that book..i will look today, i am in the middle of clearing out my basement and my sewing room..
