● ● ● If you don't have your needle in ALL the way, you'll have skipped stitches. Yup, it's true. Found out the hard way last night. I did everything: cleaned it, rethreaded it a zillion times and it still wouldn't stitch properly. So I took it in today and as soon as he started sewing, it was perfect. Since I had just changed the needle back from FM, I never checked that. But, now thinking back, I do seem to remember the foot was getting in the way when I tried to thread the needle.
All I wanted to do was work on the t-shirt quilt last night, and I got so frustrated that I couldn't. Hopefully, tonight will be more productive.

jayardi, you will not believe this but I did this just last week. Had changed a needle, other one had been working fine but it was time to change. Could not get it to make a stitch!!!! Re-installed the bobbin, I don't know why, fiddled with the threading. No stitches. Took the needle out and replaced it. Noticed it went in further. DUHHHHHH big time.
One way to avoid this is to use the needle threader on your sewing machine if it has one. If the hole isn't in the right place the needle won't get threaded.

Stitches are right if the needle is in backwards either. Learned that right out of high school. Tried to make a dress and the seams were not working at all.

● ● ● Bozie, it does have a needle threader, but it hasn't been aligned properly for some time now. I stopped fighting with it, because it would take too long to get it in the eye. I now use a tweezers to thread it. Next time I take it in for service I'll have him replace it. At least today's visit didn't cost me anything.

Oh my - I'll remember that One of these days I'm going to practice using the needle threader on the machine - I tried it a couple of times and must not have been doing it right and have just threaded it the old-fashioned way

I don't use the needle threader either. It only works for a short time after the machine comes back from service. Tried working the needle placement, and that didn't make a difference.
Thanks for the hints on the needle, will look at that now too when stitching isn't right.
