Did you hear me hollering after work?! If I'd known, I would've skipped the grocery store after work.

I walked in with bags of groceries. DH went out to help. He set his load on the cabinet and stopped me from putting anything away. Gave me a kiss and said, "Follow me." I put 2 and 2 together and nearly ran over him going down the hall! LOL

It's made out of red oak. Drawer slides for smooth working drawers. Big Grin

If you remember from some of my earlier posts (DH has been working on this for 3 years), the top drawer opens all the way through for long rulers. The backside of the other 3 drawers is shelves. I hope to find some rubbermaid-type containers or at least some baskets for WIPs.

DH asked me if it was worth the wait. I asked, "All three years?" He grinned from ear to ear.

(I've told y'all before that we have that type of relationship. If either one of us couldn't take the ribbing and see the humor in 99% of the situations we find ourselves in...we wouldn't have married each other to start with!!)

Your husband is such a skilled wood worker...very talented..what a sweetie.

Maybe the wood working is like quilt making -
one has to be in the mood to work on a particular project or it isn't very fun.

What a beautiful table! DH looks so happy that he has pleased you!
I finally found a guy to check out my Zorene and he has the most beautiful extension tables for the Featherweights that he gets from another guy who makes them! They are black with the design of FW engraved and then painted gold! I downloaded camera pics to my laptop and then tried to upload here and got a Bad command note...I have posted photos here before so I'm not sure the problem...
...scratching my head here.

WOW!!! Such a treasure I agree it is a piece of furniture not just a cutting table. I'm jealous of all the drawers you have in that masterpiece. Enjoy.... you deserve it!!!!

Sorry about the avatar I can't fix it. I thought by now that that powers that be would have changed things. I've now gone no avatars for everyone, but that won't help anyone else.

The cutting table is a stunning piece of furniture and will be such a gem to use too. Way to go, Sam! I'm really glad he surprised you with this last night. Now, when friends stop by, you'll get to drag them in your studio and brag about what he's built!

Sewnso, your avatar is gorgeous! Did you quilt it? I wish all our sew-n-tell photos showed up this large.

I had to go rub a hand across it this morning. Big Grin

After buying Shirley Anne (my Featherweight), I showed him a wood extention table on eBay. He asked me about it last night but I told him to wait a bit and let me see how my current setup worked out. For my Brother sewing/embroidery machine, he cut a hole in a computer table, built a shelf under the hole, fixed the cutout to drop back in. With the embroidery attachment off, the machine fits in the hole. With it on, it sits on the hole cover. Right now I have Shirley Anne sitting on top. DH and I checked that out, removed the cover, lowered Shirley Anne onto the shelf. Easy fix! He's going to cut a 1/2" piece of plywood to sit on top of the shelf. That will bring Shirley Anne's bed even with the top of the desk!!

However, I may still ask him make the extension table to use for traveling...

DH just moved stuff out of his way when he brought the table in...pushed everything to the other end of the room. When I got things out of the way, we took photos. This is what he saw as he walked through the obstacle course in the hall. LOL

This stuff was on top of and underneath the ANTIQUE gateleg table I was ruining. (He is going to take it to the shop to do some regluing and clamping...we use this table for overflow when family comes and the weather is too bad to spread outside to the screen porch.)

Yes. I bought him that little gadget for Christmas 3 or 4 years ago. His mark is in every drawer, the cabinet frame, and the bottom of each of the leaves. Big Grin

I'm still proud of myself for thinking it for him. He had already made of couple of small things and took it with him on one trip to his DSs to mark a small outside table. Big Grin

That is a great table. Makes me want to speed up progress on my new sewing studio/room. I like that the table is also storage. I think the biggest reason we have so much clutter in our sewing studios is lack of storage.

I hope that you totally enjoy it. I like the relationship you have with your husband.

Well. My name is "Mud."

But in my defense, DH drew the plans then did nothing for a year but leave them on his desk for me to drool over every time I sat at his computer. The first post on my blog where he started cutting and assembling sections was June 19, 2010. So in actuality it took only (ahem) two years (24 months) to make my cutting table from the first rip with the saw to setup in my sewing room.

While I am somewhat (a tiny bit) humbled by this...I did have to wait a year for him to make that first cut. AND I am fessing up to the error of my ways.

Okay, okay! A triple recipe of apricot fried pies. Sigh...
