I have most colors in abundance but am always lacking in greens (perhaps because they are a favorite that I use often! Wink ) I also "need" more black!

That being said, my shoeboxes, drawers and shelves seem to never diminish with each quilt I make so there's no way I can rationalize going out and buying more! Lol!

Overflowing on blues and purples. Lacking golds and white on cream. Both of which I need for my HGTV BOM. Guess I'll have to go shopping!

Whew! I can finally take the tape off my mouth! Big Grin

I'm overflowing with greens & blues. I probably have 8-10 stacks of each. Red Face

Red, I have 3 stacks, but I can't ever seem to find the perfect piece in the perfect shade when I'm planning a project. (Why is that??)

Orange is hard to find, but I've amassed 2 nice stacks of orange, everything from peach to rust, red-based or yellow-based.

Yellow can be elusive, but I have 2 or 3 good stacks of that. I grab it when I see it, since it's such a happy color.

Same with pink -- love it & have plenty, even raspberry & hot pink.

My purples are heaviest on the pastels (lilacs) and lighter on the others, but still a nice amount.

Tan & brown -- I have good stacks of each. Tan's easy to find, but good basic Hershey brown or coffee brown blenders, I get when I see.

Black isn't hard to find. Grey is trickier. I don't have much of that.

Red-purple (plum) is another color I'm always watching for.

I've got this thing for what I call "one color on white." If I can find a small print like that, I always buy a yard. Those fabrics are very versatile & bring light to a project.

Blue on yellow & purple on yellow are two other oddballs I like to spot @ the LQS. It's surprising how I've managed to find some of each through the years.

Fun question -- thanks for bringing it over. Will watch for what the others have to say! Smile

I have mostly greens and blues and small bits of everything else. I've used up tons of stuff and my stash is sort of limited at this point, but that's okay, that's how I want it.

Hello my stitch friends! You would think in my 64 large tubs of fabrics that I would have a lot of everything! BUT...being mostly a textile person through the years I have mostly tubs of velvets, woolens, weird fabbies (like netting and odd stretchy stuff), cordoroy, and blanketing and shiny stuff. My actual cottons for quiltings and such are full of many colors but not large pieces...just MANY tidbits. So now I am trying to learn more traditional quilting a bit and am finding it hard to just use stash (which is totally my goal!) and have to fudge on some colors a bit and definately have to piece my backings.

Having said all of that, I seem to have a shortage of reds. Maybe it is because that is my favorite color and I use it in many things?

Great question and interesting to hear what everyone has in their stash! Thanks for asking it!

I have stash that has been with me since the 1980's when I worked at the Dollar General. They sold flat folds of fabric then.. Wish they still did because the fabrics they sold were mostly unique prints. The ones I have left I use sparingly so I can keep looking at them longer.

My other stash is made up of mostly blues and greens. A few browns/tans thrown in the mix. I have a small basket of blacks and reds but wish it were a lot more of those. I buy black Kona cotton and white Kona by the bolt. I love using black in my quilts.

I have next to none of oranges, purples, and pinks and wish I could bring myself to buy a yard here and there of them but I am always turned off from them for some reason. The only way I buy them is if I have a project that calls for those colors and then I only buy what I need.

I have seen some photos in blogland of peoples stash and marvel at the number of yardage they must own... and all of it on shelves organized by color. Such a gorgeous rainbow!

Thought I had every color imaginable, but had to go buy some brown for the last top I made. I am lacking in brown. Not much orange either. Third is green. Funny, those are the colors's I can't wear either... Chris

Name it and it is overflowing. I even have a bin for Christmas and Halloween. I have done a good job on the Halloween, but not on the Christmas! Need to finish some tops and use those up because most of it is in yardage! Big Grin

I have tons of blue, but not much yellow. I am getting low on reds and pinks because I use it more than any other color. I don't have much orange because that is my least favorite color and seldom use it.

i don't think I'm lacking in any color, until I go to do a project.

I've always bought fabrics by project. That's how I've wound up with so many scraps. Nothing really big enough to do much with.

If I am short any color it is by choice. I am not big on reds, pinks, blacks or yellows.

If I am heavy on anything it is patterned fabrics. I belonged to the Keepsake Scrap Club for a while and I have got large patterned fabrics up the whazoo. The pieces are only 1/4 yd and not big enough to be a focus fabric in anything. And the colors are such that I seldom have anything to go with them. That's why I'm loving the more modern quilt patterns; I may have found a use for them, finally.

Since I did a lot of wearable or home dec sewing before venturing into quilts, I have a goodly supply of non-quilt scrap fabrics and am always looking for a way to use those up.

My fabric stash is rich....I just haven't figured out how to use it all. lolllll

The colors I have the most of are Orientals. Yes, I know that Orientals aren't really a color, but when you have them all stacked up, they do take on a sameness - and most are in the light to medium range. So I'm calling them a "color".

My second largest stash is BOW/WOB. And most of those are in FQ's.

I'm really lacking in Patriotic colors, true reds, and purples.

I'm also inundated with orange - having been in 3 different quilt challenges where I had orange as my main color, I've managed to accumulate quite an assortment of oranges.

Ha ha. I have an idea. Do this in a POLL format. The person could CHECK off the color or colors they have the most of; then they could check off what they need.

2nd option: I have a lot of all the colors EXCEPT brown and black and could use more of those.

Oddly, I have mostly blues. A pretty color but def not my favorite. My favorite is either red or green, I guess it depends on my mood, lol. I have lots of 'cooler' colors (blues & greens) and I need more hot: red, orange & yellow.

I'm so glad I started buying all sorts of colors years ago and filled in my rainbow as I went along. Have you noticed how some colors have waned over the years? Dusty rose is one that comes to mind. When I started seriously collecting fabrics, it was all about dusty rose, Williamsburg blue, hunter green, & burgundy. I don't see those fabric colors all over the place any more. Even gold seems to have gone into hiding. It looks gorgeous with plum, though, so I'm glad I bought both when I did.

I love playing with color swatches & I keep a notebook with color combo ideas. It dawned on me one day that there really aren't any color rules, and every color goes with every other color. If you add enough of the right fabrics, you can "bridge" between any two colors on the color wheel and make beautiful combos.

This is why we have to reorganize our stashes & scraps every now & then! Not only to find out what we have (or don't have), but to dream up even more gorgeous and colorful quilts. Smile

I'm making sorting my fabric my project this year. It may take that long. But I've sorted enough to know that I have a super abundance of blue and white stripes! Tubs of them and bolts!

The rest of my fabrics are pretty well even...though I'm looking for purples. Low on yellow; it's not my favorite. Although I almost always do combinations of color and am doing blue and uellow blocks right now....so pretty!!!

I need lights. Almost everything I have is medium toned.

Great idea for color combo notebook Starry. I need to do that with my flowers too.

I don't have a large stash...mostly a "scrap" stash but it seems that I have lots of blue and about two pieces of grey. Since grey is really growing on me I need to shop. I also find that the fabric I have is deep in coor or light and not much of medium value. More shopping!

Many more cool colors (including green) than warm .... I'm drawn to the turquoise/blue/purple side of the wheel.

Sounds like we could all join a Make It Hot challenge to make a quilt with hot colors. I find the most interesting ones have a nice mix of both hot/cool. Maybe that's why Toryam likes both red and green.

I seem to only buy fabric for a specific project. My last project was a Strip Twist bedspread and valances for our RV. Just discovered I have enough leftover blue/green/purple jelly roll strips leftover for something else.

It is hard to remember what you have when you are south for the winter and your stash is still up north!

And have tons of Chr*stmas fabric which I love and will probably never buy more again. (Unless of course I run into a special need for it).

Seldom buy brights.

Whoa, I have lots and lots of greens and blues. I also have lots of orange/yellows. I think this is because they're my favorite colors. My batiks are growing too. I am lacking in red and black. I really want to get some more reds. We have a golden retriever so I don't have blacks and dark colors.

(and no.. i don't want to .. lol)..

I have lots of everything-hmmm. Lots of themed fabrics-box of cowboy/horse fabric-two boxes cat/dog fabrics (really like cat fabrics), box of beachy fabrics, box of farm themed fabrics, frogs, owls, cars/trucks/motorcycles, jungle/zoo animals. have lots of colors too-I tend to lean toward more hot colors-reds, oranges, yellows, pinks. Having three granddaughters would explain two boxes full of pinks and purples. I can pretty much fill most themes except batiks and orientals, if asked. Most of my sewing is kid related-grandbabies and Project Linus so it works for me. I do have a good bit of green but don't really like green :-)

Trying to avoid buying more, but. . . that resolve is not real strong.

My stash is definitely on the cool side too... blue is my biggest stack but I think it's because I'm using it less.

Other than yellow & pink I need warms. Have never been a fan of orange but now I love it!

I've been adding lots of B&W prints as I am really into those and the greys are growing on me too but it took awhile.

I have barely any brown but I love it in quilts, especially paired with teal, aqua or greens.

LOL - You lose that bet!! Right now it has stacks of fabric pulled out while looking for something, stacks of magazines pulled out for the same reason, stacks of papers I haven't filed in ages, 2 boxes that were supposed to go to the P.O. weeks ago, 2 more boxes waiting to be dropped off at the neighborhood church, several cat toys dragged in there by the hoodlum kitten, a trash can and rolls of interfacing knocked over by the same culprit, a UFO on the cutting table, a few packs of batteries that I can't seem to remember to take to the garage, and of course, what every sewing room needs -- a BRA, waiting to go back to the company because it was tagged with the wrong size tag! If that's "SOOOOOOOOO organized," I'd sure hate to see what disorganized looks like! Eek Razz

And to think I spent most of January moving stuff around in there, cleaning out, cleaning up, and adding shelving. Roll Eyes

What is that old nursery rhyme... "When she was good, she was very, very good, and when she was bad, she was horrid." That's me & my sewing room. Big Grin
