I am so frustrated!!!! I cut 2 pieces of fabric and am trying to make the hourglass unit by making the sewed triangles then cutting them down to the size I need. Is there some magic line that will get you even triangles all the way around. For the life of me I am not so getting this. I know I am doing something wrong and just simply cannot figure it out. I want to make them this way instead of cutting up a square into 4 triangles then resewing them and resewing them. I hope I am making sense thank you for reading about my rant and frustration.

I started to write an explanation but "a picture is worth 1,000 words" so instead I used google and found a wonderful site for you. Scroll down almost halfway to see how to square up the block. http://www.diaryofaquilter.com...-block-tutorial.html I think the most important part is centering the ruler. When you get the quilt done, be sure to show us a picture.

LOL well really Mary Lou, you have saved the evening. I thank you for taking time to look for an answer to my post. Maybe I should have had something stronger then Power-Ade in my Red Solo Cup when I made my first one that was a disaster this afternoon. After I read the tutorial in the link you posted to the light flashed, of course , find the halfway make of the size you want it to finish at. Sometimes we make it so hard on ourselves on such a simple thing. OOPS....sorry should have said "I" and not we cause some are just naturals at this!

Glad I could help. It didn't take long - this was the first site I looked at when I googled.

Mary Lou, I have been on a major sewing binge since you helped me with my frustration on squaring up the oversized hourglass block. As I am going through my scraps, if I find some that fit the oversize method I am sewing them that way. I also finally figured out how to use the Companion Angle ruler Bonnie Hunter uses to make the hourglass unit. I have all size of scraps so both methods are being used. I am taking 2 classes from Bonnie over the New Year holidays and one of them requires 288 hourglass units! The first class she is teaching is a mystery class and I sure hope she has hourglass units because I can sew them out quick now! Again thank you so much! Have great holidays! Ana
