Welcome to the 2012 Stashbusting Thread. I am Gonesewin and I will be starting a new thread for each month for everyone to post pictures (If at all possible) or tell about your stashbusting efforts. It does NOT have to be quilting! This can be any kind of sewing! There are just 2 "rules" to join us: what you make make should be mostly from stash and it should be finished during the month you post it as finished. There are no signups, or swapping or... Just this thread. Everyone is welcome! cksvett has graciously volunteered to send out surprises each month. Your name will be entered each month when you show or tell us about your stashbusted project. On the first of the month when I start a new thread, someone from my family will draw a name and the winner will be posted on that new thread. If your name is drawn please send your mailing information to cksvett so your surprise can be mailed to you. New This Year Royalboomer has graciously volunteered some of her "extras" as prizes too! So what I am going to do is this: Those who finish bigger projects or do multiples of 5 smaller items from stash will also be put into a separate drawing and one will be awarded a prize from Royalboomer each month! l've been sewing on a baby quilt all day today but l have to admit only the batting will be from my stash! But at least l'm sewing. l haven't been doing much of anything lately! Good to see you on here, Lori! ====================== l would be unstopable IF l could get started!!!
|
l just realized l bought the fabric during the Retreat in Branson. That was over a month ago. Does that now count as stash? hehehe Nope! But my next 3 quilts due this month will be! Yeahhhhhhh! ====================== l would be unstopable IF l could get started!!!

Here's a little doll quilt I made for the 2013 Mrs. Claus project. I had won these blocks as a prize for stashbusting. So they were in someone else's stash before they came to live with me in mine. Used a piece of fleece from my scrap stash for the backing. ![]()
|
I'd say that's the first example of 'paying it forward' I've seen on these threads. Good idea, McP. And a cute little quilt.

Myself and 7 friends are having our 2nd holiday bazaar on Nov. 17th. I have been busy sewing and trying to get some things made to sell. I made oven door dresses last year and they went well. I have nine made so far. Here is a sample of them. Everything is from stash. I had the towels for quite some time and all of the fabric is from stash. Nice work ladies! Carolyn http://bransoncofretreat.shutterfly.com/ Our lives are like quilts - bits and pieces, joy and sorrow, stitched with love. ![]()

Here's my second Mrs. Claus doll quilt. This one is made from triangle half squares trimmed off the signature blocks made for the retreat. Two HST blocks = 1 flying geese. The HST squared up to 1-1/2 inches each. Batting scrap and backing from stash. This is fun trying to get creative with odds and ends! ![]()
|
All the project are great. And Maryann I love those geese, such a great use for bonus hst. I have lots, I bet enought for a lap quilt, I just may have to start sewing them up as leader/Enders. Hummmm
|
And here's another doll quilt for Mrs. Claus from the orphan block drawer! Won this block in North Carolina retreat. It was square so I trimmed the sides to make it the size needed after adding a border. The border is strings that were left over from a piano key border on a quilt earlier this year. ![]()

THis is 1 of 4 little quilts I made to give as awards for the top winners at the marathon (all from stash)This message has been edited. Last edited by: toryam, ![]()

I finally have a completed project to post. Joined the 2013 Mrs Claus doll quilt group and finished my first one today. Its in the 4-patch stacker pattern and measures 14 x 18" in size. ![]()
|
paus4quilts, you package went out today. Said delivey on the 13th so look for it a day on either side of that... chris

A bunch of great projects this month again. I too have signed up for the Mrs Claus 2013 project. Thanks for some great ideas. Love SBS, so you know that one is my favorite of those you made. Don't expect to be able to do any till after Christmas, too much volunteering between now and then. And work keeps getting in the way of things I want to do! Chris

I made this baby quilt for a young couple expecting their first baby. The young dad graduated from high school with our oldest and his mom is our accountant. The young mom is the daughter of our mechanic! I am posting two pictures. I am very excited that I tried a new pattern for the FMQ in the border which turned out better than I thought it would! It is loops with stars. Susan Am editing to add....everything I used was from stash. It was so tight on the backing, that when I trimmed the edges after adding the binding, there was only a sliver of fabric on two sides! This message has been edited. Last edited by: stm1804,

Great stashbusting so far this month!! Way to go everybody! I received my prize yesterday from royalboomer for last months drawing. All I can say is WOW!!!!! The box was heaping full!! Thank you so much. Here is a pic of my goodies, and I sure had to squeeze a lot of stuff in the pic!! ![]()
|
My physical therapist told me no quilting for at least one month. You all have me so motivated and I can't do anything! Quiltbea, I love your mrs.claus project quilt, so little girlish.
|
I think this is #4 of the doll quilts. This one was made from triangles trimmed from my Christmas row robin and left over sashing from it, too. The triangles in the top and bottom border were heavily starched to prevent stretching. ![]()
|
And this is #5. This was made with 4 rejected Sylvia Bridal Sampler blocks and 2 from other projects. The smallest (and why it was rejected) was less than 6" square so I trimmed them all smaller and added some sashing from stash. Both 4 & 5 are layered, but haven't been quilted yet. I need to get some other sewing done, so even though I have lots of orphan blocks left, I may not get to them for a couple weeks. Like I said, this is fun and is getting addicting! ![]()

mcpatches love all your quilts !
|
Thank you Aunt Jo! Here's #6. I did a QOV Quilt called "scrappy stars" and used the trimmings from flying geese to make pinwheels that were in the sashing of that quilt. Of course, I ended up with extra pinwheels that just wanted to be a doll quilt. Still have more orphan blocks, but need to get Christmas sewing and quilting done! ![]()
|
I finished a 2nd doll quilt for the Mrs Claus On project. This is another 14 x 18" size. ![]()
|
This pic isn't the greatest, but it's all I had with my phone ... This is a scrappy from the nickels I had collected years ago with Bingo Bonnie And every piece of fabric is from scratch... I wish it wasn't holiday time so I could really go forth and see what I can whip up It's on a long arm right now and will be ready for binding today PLEASE HELP SUPPORT MY WALK ... on my RELAY FOR LIFE PAGE Bring on the New Year ... it's MY YEAR for sewing! ![]()

Wow! Great projects this month! This is baby quilt #2 this month and it is all from stash! l have another baby shower next weekend so l'll have another busy week! LOL ====================== l would be unstopable IF l could get started!!! ![]()

Rainbow, your baby quilt is adorable. Did you piece all those colored squares in that border? McPatches, great job on those doll quilts. Really nice, I especially like that Christmas one. QBea...nice job on those, they look intricate to do. Way to go Lindsay on your multi squares quilt. Lovely fabric/color assortment. What is the size of the square? Great cause too. MaryJ...wowsers, great prize to win, you must have felt like it was Christmas when you opened it up. Congrats again. Hoping to do some stashbusting of my own today if all goes according to plan. Great job ladies! <><><> Express Your Creative Side ~~ Sew Something Today. <><><>

Ha! No way, Lens!!! ====================== l would be unstopable IF l could get started!!!

Was at the Magnolia retreat this weekend and put together my 6 1/2 crumb rwb blocks to make 12 12" blocks I donated to the Alabama Quilts of Valor group. No pictures. Did start working on all the other crumb blocks, sewing them into a top, but have a way to go on that. Hope to have it ready to post before the end of the month... Chris

Finally got some stashbusters done!! Made these 3 baby clutch balls made for a friend from Ghana whose baby was born about 2-1/2 months ago and was an emergency C-section 4 weeks early! He is adorable and healthy and I made a baby quilt for him while he ws still in the NICU! I figure that the balls can grow with him since there are 3 sizes. pat ![]()

I made several Thanksgiving tablerunners. My DB thought it made a nice tie. I thought it would be a better bib. ![]()

triple duty Auntjo! I've made 2 quilt tops for wedding gifts that are waiting to be quilted and these doll clothes for a friend's gdaughter will be at our Bible study's Christmas party. It feels so good to do some "real" sewing for a change! The clothes would look better on a doll but I spent quite awhile looking in the attic for one yesterday and could not find the box! It's been way to long since dolls were popular in my house ;(This message has been edited. Lot's of pretties again this month. Here is another pr@yer quilt I made, all from stash, even the ribbon. ![]()
|
Here are 2 pillows and some tissue holders. The snowman pillow fabric is from my "winnings" that royalboomer sent. ![]()
|
I finished!! quilted and everything They are both in the washer as I type this - I'll take a picture after they are done and dried but I was just so excited to actually get them done I just had to share. All done - here's the finished products: First table mat for DM - she has a small round table so a runner is impractical. This message has been edited. Last edited by: royalboomer, ![]()

Second is table runner for DS - her table is long and skinny I have got to find a better way to take pictures other than taping "stuff" to a door ![]()

This month just keeps getting better & better. Had a baby shower this week for a spouse of a guy I work with and a tag from the tree at c-h-u-r-c-h for blankets, both boys. Here is a picture of both sides of reversible pre-quilted material I just put blanket binding on. When I bought that almost full bolt of the pre-quilted panels at a rummage sale, it was one of the best purchases I made. think I just have two left... Chris ![]()
|
Two of the receiving blanket. The teddy bears is a border print, not flannel, a lighter fabric as you sometimes need that here in Florida. ![]()
|
Love how fast the stack of fabric is used up when you do these 42" square blankets. And the last two colors... chris ![]()

Here is my latest baby quilt. This is the 3rd on l've made in the last 3 weeks. lt is all from stash. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Rainbow, ====================== l would be unstopable IF l could get started!!! ![]()

... I have been busy all month and all I can show is this little table mat for the candles and salt and peppers made as a gift for the mom of Anthonys best buddy; it is quilted and outlined with metallic thread - but I must have finished it after the picture! ... the charity group I quilt with got 35 quilts off to NY this month, but no pics as they were indeed all from stash and donations but done by the group doing this n that ... the figures in the picture were from 30 years ago when I was doing ceramics and teaching porcelain doll painting (between shifts in the stockade and PTing troops!)).... these were done with stiff brushes and pastels - and spray. I cannot change 'things', but I can change how I feel about them. Me. Wounded Warrior Project www.woundedwarriorproject.org ![]()

I finished a baby quilt for DD's co-worker. All from stash except for borders.. Here tis:

That is really pretty - Evan will love it. I cannot change 'things', but I can change how I feel about them. Me. Wounded Warrior Project www.woundedwarriorproject.org

Love the green quilt Auntie Reba! Here's another doll quilt. This one made me appreciate all the beautiful minis Bozie does! My sewing machine didn't like all the seams in this one. But at least I don't have any more triangle trimmings from the 70 siggie squares I did! ![]()
