I used the regular rice and I also have used whole corn. Some people use flax seeds too. You can use some lavender or other herbs or essential oils to put some fragrance. Mine have just regular white rice - the cheapest you can get works just fine. I have two of the...one is two washcloths sewn together...the other is a tube sock with "handles" on each end that will loop around your neck. I received another I think at COF Branson and took it to work to leave there. Well...my boss said, "OH for me?!" I didn't have the heart to tell her No. She took it home with her. LOL So I guess I need to make us one to leave at the office. Thanks for the suggestions! I have the tube sock with the handles too, so I found it, and I could tell that it was filled with corn. Made a trip to the feed store for corn and made two so far. I work in a building with industrial carpet over concrete and with cinder block walls. Let me tell you that it is COLD in there in the mornings. This year most of us are complaining about not being able to warm up our fingers... So everyone is getting a desk top microwave bag with a cover which has a built in pocket/flap to slide your fingers into. I picked up flannel at 1/2 price from JoAnn's - purple for Penny, a piggy for Toni, owls for me, etc.,etc., for 8 of us........ .This message has been edited. I've made tons of these. I use regular old rice ... cheap stuff. I also make some ones (about size of my hand) to keep in the freezer. These are boo-boo bags for the little ones.

My daughter used regular rice. She made severalfor gifts and sold some also. Freeze good too for use. The ones she made.

I use feed corn for the ones I make. I do like to wash it and dry it in the oven so I know it is "clean" before I use it.

I make mine from muslin and then make a washable cover for it. I also make rows in the muslin so the rice will stay put better instead of moving around so much. Love mine, hot and cold.

Here are the 8 I made. They are roughly 5x10". Summers are just this side of hell, but you don't have to shovel sunshine... http://s76.photobucket.com/albums/j8/KGinCA/
