A friend came over, inspired by Mary Lou Wideman's book Out of the Box With Easy Blocks (the one with the bird on the front...she has 2 Out of the Box books) page on kitty quilts and wanted us to make some. Here's mine....think type C quilter.

No pattern. I did it. I could trace it off for you, if you want. I tried to follow the instructions in Mary Lou's book Out of the Box, but after the third try, just gave up (it's kind of like Paper Piecing (which 1/2 the time I don't get...a bit dyslexic)and just started sewing stuff on. You're supposed to start with the ears and add parts from there in strips downward...I just couldn't get the angles she was talking about. Finally I just whacked out my own. She makes them all look different anyway... This is from the book...no real pattern in there either..just measurements...

Can't decide which I like more -- the quilt or the cat! Now how did a quilter end up with such a polka-dotted cat?! Did you order him from Michael Miller???
We should have a whole post -- Pets On Quilts! (Ding! Light bulb moment!)

Reminds me that I need to start my kitty quilt. Fred & Mary said to tell you "meow, meow, meow' - translated to "It's great"!

..don't feel bad about the paper piecing..i just don't get it either..or can't think "backwards" to make it work out..

Adorable!! Sometimes I wanna write a book on how "there's more than one way to skin a cat" (no pun intended). You did just with making it your way. We don't have to follow the directions exactly-do your own thing.
Biscuit is very beautiful! What breed of cat is he? Our family always had Siamese. I've had a mixture; calico's,tabbies, tigers etc. I loved them all. It's so cool how they all have their very own personalities. Now I do dogs. I'd have a house full if I could!
He's adorable - AND as an added benefit doesn't need to have his box cleaned

Wonderful! Both of them. I know exactly what you mean about paper piecing, but I think you need to be dyslexic to be able to work backwards like that.

No need to trace it, NancyC. I've got a pretty good facsimile of it. I DO like your invention!!!!

Paus: It's done in horizontal strips. Start with the ears and work down. She has instructions for getting the angles (I needed angels) of the ears, nose, face, etc. I wanted shoulders(so his head wasn't foating in the air, so the bottom strip around the bow tie is one of the colors in his face. Then I added borders. The whole thing is 12" X 14ish" I put different quilting in each section. Quilted the whiskers, eyebrows. Mouth and felt eye circles are embroidered. I had a button box nearby that I spilled on it...and loved the color, so I put special antique buttons on him.The binding is black and green checks (hard to see).
I've got more cats(all rescues,drop-ins or ferils...nobody is fancy...just loved), so I'll be making more kitty quilts...probably after Christmas (since Starry brought that up I realized I have a ton of stuff to do!!!)Biscuit was from a no-kill shelter, Pam...just a sweet shorthair.
Biscuit says "Meow" back to all his fans!!!! That means "Smooch, thank you so much"!

Looks as if he has a mask on. What cartoon cat wore a mask? Or at least his coloring looked as if he wore a mask...Felix?
that is really cute. Nancy have you tried the method of Cynthia England? Picture piecing but looks a little easier than flip and sew like paper piecing. http://englanddesign.com/content/video-demos-0

I saw the neat stitching in your picture. It's what makes the charm and character of your kitty. So glad you shared this quilt.
KYIS: I believe you are thinking about TC (Top Cat), my hero!!!! He used a mask when he was in one of his 'do right' attitudes.

Really cute kitty and quilt! Is Biscuit a bengal? He looks somewhat like my son's bengal cat.

I don't know. Just a sweet little stray from a no-kill shelter. Still gets on my shoulder and falls asleep like when he was a baby (and weighed less). mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
