Disappearing nine patch
This may be old hat, but I love what you can do with a nine patch. Check out this variation

Hi tvbleak & welcome to the boards. I like the layout of that D9P block. It was hard for me to cut up a D9P block the first time I made one. Wink

Hi, thanks for sharing that. It looks easier to start with the 9 patch rather than 4 patch, sash, cornerstone!! Effective!

my philosophy: there are no real mistakes in quilting, just design opportunities!!

Thanks for sharing this. Next week my quilt quild is going to be swapping sq's for the disappearing 9 patch, to make crib quilts to donate. I like this lay out! We'll be sewing the quilt tops at our June meeting!

There is no end to what you can do with the D9P ... this is one that I used 5"charms for my grandson to gift to his father a few years ago - and he uses it.

City, that's gorgeous! It is amazing how such a simple process can turn out so cool...and you sit there and think "why didn't I think of that??"

Aliq .. you made me chuckle, gorgeous isn't a word that came to MY mind but I'm really flattered to hear it .. yes this is a block that can be done so many ways both with the sewing and the block arranging. One of the charity quilts we did had the same dark green center squae in every block which when cut resulted in the little dark squares that popped up all over. Looked really nice.

beautiful!
Welcome tvbleak!

Sandie, my best guess would be a scrappy nine patch, with white for the inside squares and the same dark (blue?) for the center. ?

Pat will tell us!

here is another variation done by my friend..

Kimstrut- you are always there to pick up the slack when I go missing!!! I love your wealth of knowledge!!! Yes, CitySandie- Kim is exactly right- 4 scrap squares for the corners(I used 5") with 4 white squares as the inside ones and dark blue (I used Millineum 2000 celebration fabric!Wink ) as the center square.

I love yours in the photo, Kim!!! Now decode it for us, please!!!

PWife ... you have the right idea there Smile just for fun, use some small squares, make a few 9 patch blocks all alike - and then cut them as shown, + , then rearrange each block by turning them... you will see some new patterns emeging ... and of course color placement plays a big role in how it looks. That one i showed does have a pattern but because of the many charms I used it's hard to tell!
