quilt top finishing Sign In/Join

I have a quilt top that was purchased at a garage sale. It is a simple patch design that starts in the middle and then changes color/design as it spreads out from there. The attached photo is just a pic of the design I am talking about, it is NOT my quilt top. Along three edges is a 4 inch boarder. No border on the 4th edge. I am wondering what to do. I have purchased some retro-like fabric to use for binding. But should I try to do something about the 4th edge or just leave it as it is? I am guessing that the 4th edge must have been intended to be at the head of the bed?

That's a "Trip Around the World" design. The fourth border may be missing because it was intended to be at the top of the bed as you suggested. Or maybe the person working on it just got tired of it and stopped there or had to stop for other reasons.

In any case it's your quilt now to finish the way you would like it to be. Smile

I agree with Martha on all counts...Its a Trip Around the World.I'd just finish it if it is a size you will use as is.If you want it bigger,I would try to stay with similar fabric especially if it is vintage fabrics, same with the binding..Nice find
