I found the board on the last day of the Memorial Day weekend, and was afraid that I wouldn't be able to find it again when I got home from work the next day. I was new to the internet and to message boards and intended to lurk only. It took two weeks for CBQ to lure me into a CW fat quarter swap. That's when I signed up.

I found the boards shortly after we got the first computer in fall 1999, I think. That was in the days before we had to register. When they started with registering, resisted at first.

Spend a lot of time here.

I believe I started way back, when I had to sign up in the library to use the computer a week later for 1 hour. Didn't know a thing about it, all I could do was pick a name of a yarn Co. and was amazed at all the colors of yarn that would come up on the screen! Knew I was onto something, didn't know what to do with it!!! Then I had to have a Web TV, whatever that was....that started all of this wonderful world of INTERNET!I must have gotten started about the same time as Strings...
1999..remember all the scares about the turn of the century..LOL, Thank G*o*d, we've came a long way BABY!!!!!!!

My cable co. started carrying HGTV around the mid-90's, and I found this website soon after. The message board was for "crafts" and was simply a list of topic titles, with replies listed under them. No registration was needed to post or read. That might have been '95 or '96? I'm guessing.

Then the site changed style, and along with the craft board, there was a "Home Talk" or some similarly named catch-all board where everything under the sun was discussed, un-moderated. There was even a recipe board. I came across a recipe print-out from there the other day, dated '98 or '99.

Then came another change and registration was required. I don't remember exactly when that was (some here will**), but I do remember it was during a blur of (elderly) family responsibilities for me, so I may not have registered right away. During the early '00's, my sewing machine collected cobwebs for long stretches because I was too busy doing other things.

My registration says July of 2004, but I know I was here from the get-go of a very rudimentary "craft" board long before that, and here through every change since.

**Sept. of '02?

I think it was 98 or 99 too. Every time they changed the boards the registration date changed. Got my first computer in 1998 and I know it was shortly after that. The HGTV site was the first one I visited

Now I like everyone here so much I am addicted to it. It is a great addiction though. Don't you think?

I registered Sept. 30, 2005. I used to be a lurker and then registered so I could see the pictures. Never thought I would become a 'regular' having to check to see what was new and the pictures posted. Then in November of that year, I broke my ankle. Enough to say it was a long, miserable recuperation and since I couldn't do much, I used to be on the board for hours every day. And then I got my DD to join in too.

Love the ladies, learned a lot and laughed a lot.

That agrees with the info in the member directory that shows the first person to sign in is "Admin" on Sept. 04, 2002. There are a few more Admin registrations (testing I guess) on Sept 10 and 12 and then the regular sign ins started on Sept, 17, 2002 with someone with the logonid of "fergus".

The list is here if anyone wants to check it out. I have it sorted by date joined so the first members are at the bottom of the last page.

Uh - it's not that I don't have anything useful to do. I'm just stuck on a quilt design and giving my brain something else to play with for a bit........... Big Grin

I registered in August of 2003, but I had been a "lurker" here for a couple of years prior to that. I ended up registering 'cause someone had a question and no one seemed to know the answer, but I did. So I signed up and answered the question. Someone else came up with the same answer that same day, so my answer was confirmed. It felt good to finally be able to help someone else since I had gotten such great advice from just reading all of the board posts. Since then, I've gotten more active on the board and have done several swaps, including becoming the host, with my friend QuilterChris, of the 12 Days of Christmas Swap. I have learned a lot from all of you ladies and have been privileged to get to know you all.

My profile says September 18, 2002, but I know that's when we had to re-register and I know I had been here for several years prior. We got internet in the Fall of '96, so I'm guessing I started hanging out on hgtv.com around the same time. Like several of you, I remember just the general boards - Crafts, Gardening, Food. I didn't start being a regular on this board until 2007, although I peaked in from time to time.

I'm really getting tired of having to sign in each time that come to this forum. I clicked the "keep me signed in", but I still have to log in each time I come here.

Looks like September 18, 2002. This is when we were forced to join the forum if we were going to post. I remember beng hesitant in joining and then didn't know if I'd like it after signing up. Glad I did though because I've met alot of awesome people here!

1/10/2003. Know I was on the board long before that as we moved to Florida in June of 1999 and had cable for the first time in years and lived on HGTV. The gardening shows, Sandra Bsthune, Alex, Carol Duval, those were THE GOOD OLD DAYS.
Took a while to register after we needed to, think it was to see the pictures. Hadn't really started quilting yet, just bought fabric, books, magazines & watched quilting shows... Chris
