They are 9.5inch ... I'm thinking of cutting them down to 8.5inch so they finish at 8inch. I think there's too much going on past the center design ... most of the center design is about 6inches. What do you guys think????
Now I guess I need to sash the blocks (I 'hate' doing sashing) but it's necessary (I guess). So what color? (black?) and size? (1.5inch?)
Twostep - I think your ideas sound good. I think if you trim the blocks down you will have more focus on the center, just want you want. I also think black sashing is perfect for those blocks. It looks good in the background of your photos.
Your fabric choice turned out great. The quilt is going to be wonderful.
Oooooo, those are SO pretty!!! I never cease to be amazed at those types of blocks! I've never made them, but hope to someday. I think sashing them in black would be perfect. I can't wait to see the finished project!

Those blocks certainly are lovely. If I were you I would do something like take a piece of cardboard (cereal box or even a piece of paper) and cut a square out of it the size you want to cut the blocks down to.
Then you can audition the blocks with it before you cut anything. Just a suggestion.

Good point! Or you can use a square ruler and use masking tapes to mark off the potential desired size you wanted and see how much is 'cut off' and you can decide what to do.
I agree with the others - black sashings too!

Yes, I agree. A bit smaller would make the centers more vibrant. That's usually the case with 4-patch stackers. For the centers to take center stage, they need to be cut into strips no larger than 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 inches, depending on the size of the pattern. Great flowers. I love them. I think with the black sashing, it will make those flowers really stand out since the flower background is black. I can't wait to see these all together. They're really lovely. Good job.

So right city, can't remember who, I did it on mine to cut them down. You cut a diagonal off each corner, this will give you enough pieces to make another block, they will be bias though. I pinned the 4 pieces together so I wouldn't get them confused.

Yes, if you cut on the diagonal across all four corners it gives you 4 pieces to make another block, plus focuses the center a little tighter. Someone here did it and the results were really wonderful! You also aren't wasting the fabric from cutting the block down, because for each block cut you have another block you can make.

I'm confused though about cutting back the corners ........ do you mean to cut off the corners which result in like a snowball look? I'm lost.
I was thinking about using a finished 1.5 inch sashing and no corner stones.
You could put them on point if you wanted...or not...it would be up to you
I can't remember who it was....but they were unhappy with their blocks and decided to cut them down. She showed how she cut them down diagonally and made more blocks with the points she had cut off.
I want to say IaLisa? I agree, cut the corners off and do it that way. I was also thinking do a square in a square method and you wouldnt emd up with any bias edges after you sewed the seams. Sorry i cant be of more help.
