I finished this mini sampler for AAQI. Called this one "Small Samples". Now I'm kinda stuck on getting a design for the next one. Looks as if it's gonna be another one with Sun Ray's Stars. I'm in a rut!

• • • It took me two days to build a box so I could ship The Masque up north for a show. Then I had to get crackin' on the Project Quilting Challenge. Was moving right along until last night I hit a snag. It's going to be a very busy day. You'll get to see that one this weekend. Wink

I've also been tallying up the votes for the Scraps to Treasures Challenge. All the quilts are on display and there is still a whole week left to vote. Please stop by and send in your votes.

Don't forget about the Quilt Maker Contest. Anyone is eligible to participate and I have a GREAT PRIZE for the person who correctly matches the most. The current leader only has six correct. Plenty of opportunities to take the lead. Why not give it a try?

This is what I have done so far this week.
1) a baby quilt top from stash
2) the place mats that I started at the retreat. Made 4 of them and gave them to my #2 DS to give to his SIL as part of his wedding gift to her. I also added a doilly to go with them.
3) Worked on the QAYG that I started at the retreat, I just have to finish the binding. and
4) I'm sewing on the binding the quilt for my DD. will show it when I get it done.

Handie Ann, the placemats are lovely. Bozie, that is just beautiful.
Just mailed this baby quilt off, the parents are grads of Univ of Wyoming, hence the brown and gold colors for son #3. The cowboy was from a panel that had a background color I didn't like, so used fusible on the back and cut it out and appliqued it on a new background. A friend is teaching me all about my serger so finished a pair of sweat pants today too.

Great projects!

How big is your mini-sampler Bozie? Those pieces look tiny! Speaking as one who has a hard time with regular sized complex blocks I'm in awe.

Love your Seeing Stars Quiltnanny! I've been thinking about trying some hand quilting on my next small project and seeing yours convinces me to give it a shot.

I finished 3 UFOs this week. Here is Blue Yellow Brick Road which was started in 2005 and machine quilted by my LA.

Handie Ann, that is a beautiful purple/white quilt top and I like how you used the striped fabric on your place mats. I love your idea of cutting the figure out of a panel OklaTwister... that's something I would never think of!

I get to wrap them up for giving also. This time after I got them in the box, I thought the white ox was too nice to cover up with paper, so I found a wide ribbon. So here is the gift. Looks better in person, somehow wrapped gifts just don't show up good in pictures... Chris

About the betta fish ....
The background is woven from 2 striated dyed fabrics. There's a small black zigzag stitch following each raw edge.

The fish fins are fussy cut and sections overlap. This allowed the flowing lines in the fabrics to give movement to the fins.

It was simple and fun - just took time to zigzag around all those fins. I changed the stitch width to narrow to points at the tips of the fins.

There are a few more photos on my blog.

Apple Sharon, thanks for the snowman suggestion. I'm always looking for ideas for ways to make my little quilts something other than "same ol'"

I had to shorten this gown. This is AFTER the hemming. What a nightmare trying to do a narrow hem on two layers and the ruffle. DD is the owner/model. Sorry about the side view. When I sent it from the phone ..this is how it was. Then I couldn't turn it.

Chris, I'm sorry I missed your suggestion when I was reading here earlier. Actually I have made a mini sampler in colors of autumn - as well as one in red, white, and blue. I'll attach a picture of the Autumn one.

Oh, and blue is my very favorite color too. Smile

Not much sewing this week. I had company early in the week and Friday went to a quilt show. That's always fun. Don't understand how I arrived at home without even one bag of goodies. Guess I'm getting old and forgetful. LOL

I did get three of these flags pieced this weekend. I had to work on the slicing because I wanted to leave some of the college symbols intact. I did change the pattern this time so the top is horizontal. It's such a pain to hang the flags with a curved top. Hopefully I can get them quilted tomorrow.

I made this matching "Wonder Wallet" (Lazy Girl Designs). It was quick to make but I'm not real impressed with the pattern as it leaves raw (zig-zagged) edges inside the pockets.

Very nice projects everyone. I'm helping Sister Sue with some schlep bags that she promised to one of her friends. I finished my afghan that was supposed to be for his wedding last Oct, so he got it for his 1st Anniversary on sunday.
I Love this thread every week, so much fun to see what others are doing.

Amazing projects, as usual! Here are the table runners I made for each of the six aunts that are still with us. When we were first married, we had NO money so I made ornaments. Our family kept growing with cousins marrying, etc. and I was making around 30 ornaments each year. I had run out of ideas a few years ago, so I made the aunts table runners in winter colors - blues and whites. The next year, I had left over red, white and blue pieces, so there was Summer. To keep with the theme, I did Spring twister table runners last year. Since there was only one season left, I felt like I had to do Fall! I used EveylnB's leaf pattern (thank you Evelyn for always giving me great inspiration!)and here is what I ended up with! They are all a little different, but none of the aunts lives near each other!!!

Susan,
I love your runners! Those leaves are awesome in those fabric choices! Think I'll now steal your idea and make runners for my craft group. Last Thanksgiving we made semicircular napkins that fold into trees dor everyone's table. Sure would be a nice addition. TFS I gave my leaf quilt to a friend for a wedding gift. She was thrilled.

Thanks, Evelyn! I did mess them up a bit as I paper pieced the points as you suggested, but measured differently for some of them! In other words, some points are fat, some are skinny and some are different on each side!! Luckily, it isn't that noticeable!!! You can't really see it in the picture, but I FMQ with varigated(sp?) thread in the background then green (or black) in the borders. Great practice for me! I SID around the leaves. Please post yours when you finish them for your craft club! I remember the napkins and they were adorable!
Thanks,
Susan

The border used was a batik I found when coordinating prints couldn't be located.(see close up) I think this works well.
The top was made with some noodles that Quilter Jen gifted me some time ago plus a background I had in my stash that I thought complemented the noodles.
Each strip made 2 1/2 whirligigs. To make the top as big as possible, some of the whirligigs were put together with more than one print. Then many of the remaining pieces were added to the top and bottom.
The whole project gave me a new challenge every step of the way and was a slow process for me. How I admire you who have a speedy creative ability. Especially those of you who manage to post every week or almost that.
