I came across this paperpieced basketweave star pattern. I'd love to try it but I need to practice pp'ing first. I love the scrappiness of it. She had it posted on the Flickr mugrug board.

Another way to make this star would be to make several 1/4 log cabins and then trace one point of the star on the log cabin and cut it out. Add the setting triangle to each and sew four of them together. Finish as desired.
Gee AngelaC isn't it great that I LOVE paper piecing. See what you could do with it. I think this would be a good one to try it out again. I really like this block, just might try it out when I'm allowed to sew again.

PatriciaAnne, "how nice of you to think to make one of these for AngelaC"!!! What a good sister you would be! And when you are done with her's I will (or she could) give you my address.
Quiltnana2, thanks for posting this. I did print off the template. But since I haven't developed a love affair with paper piecing I was trying to think how else to do it. Thanks Paus, for coming up with another method.

lolllll Quiltinana2. Your point is well taken about pping 'wasting' fabric. It's ironic but the story of pping is that it was a way to use up scraps. As the designs have become more intricate, more elaborate, we don't use as many scraps for them anymore.
The idea of using the star point pattern and filling it in with crumbs is a great thought!!!
I love the precision of pp and use it often but this pattern just seemed to call for that 1/4 log cabin because that is basically what is being made.
That is a gorgeous block. I've never done paper piecing except a couple of little "learning" blocks, but they do turn out so nice. Maybe I'll print this template and play with it.
