Just to recap what you need:

A layered and quilted rectangle approximately 8 1/2" x 11 1/2"

Two pieces of fabric approximately the length and width of your e-reader for inside pockets hemmed on one long edge.

Velcro. A piece of fuzzy sew on. And a piece of loopy stick-on.

Bias binding
Closure of some sort - I used a ponytail holder and a button. You could also add a flap with velcro if you wish.

Two pieces of cardboard or plastic canvas - slightly smaller than your e-reader.

Detailed list here:

I'm going to go ahead and post some photos. I know y'all will be in and out.

One outside block before quilting. Hope yours is quilted! Or you have a piece of prequilted fabric.

These are the two inside pockets.

I mixed up the Velcro in the above list...I sewed the loopy to the right side pocket and stuck fuzzy stick-on to the Kindle. I don't think it would be a problem.

Don't just randomly sew the Velcro strip on the side pocket. Turn your e-reader face down and checkout the back side. Check for any holes in the case - speaker, air, decoration, whatever. Cut two strips of stick on Velcro to fit...and stick a piece at the top and one at the bottom.

THEN sew the other side of the Velcro to the pocket so that it will align with the e-reader.

AND, if you have a label...sew it on the left side.

PS The hemmed edges are in the center...

No questions. Smile Moving right along...

I'll discuss what you can do if you don't want to stick Velcro on your e-reader at the end of this...

For now, place the quilted outside face down. Align each pocket in it's proper place. Don't sew yet.

Y'all all get an A in deportment. I've never seen a better behaved group of students.

Pass the almonds! Watch out for the cookie crumbs. What kind of soup? We had potato soup with ham and kale. OH MY! It was delicious if I do say so myself!

We've got to put that ponytail holder in place now. On the right side as it looks here, place the ponytail holder against the cutting mat on the right side of the quilted rectangle. Leave a little sticking out, but have the bulk of the ponytail holder out of sight.

I don't have a photo of this. The small loop you can see will be inside the seam allowance and covered by the bias binding. After binding, you will flip the largest loop across the binding and tack it down.

If this is clear as mud, I hope it clears up later on.

Don't know if you could tell from the above photos, but you should keep a gap between the two pockets...like this...so that the cover can bend and the bender part. WHAT is that called?! LOL At the SPINE! That's sooooo bad!!!

Now, sew your binding down. Round or miter your corners. I've done it both ways. Press and hem the binding. I did it all by machine.

Since this is the outside, the loop is on the left...

See how you lay the loop over the binding and tack? I did this by machine too...stitch over several times.

Back to the pink cover again...Slip those two pieces of cardboard or plastic canvas in place.

I do not stitch my pockets closed. I slip the charging cord behind the Kindle and the headphones on the other side...both between the cordboard and the cover so that there's nothing to mash on the Kindle screen.

Close and decide where your pretty button should go to make a tight fit. Sew it on buy hand...holding your hand inside the pocket so you don't sew through all layers.

On this one, I made the loop too large. But did find that I could tie a knot in it right against the fabric. Tightened up just perfect.

Attach your e-reader. If you must, hold it over the bed and give it a shake. I haven't had one to turn loose yet.

Now...if you don't want to use Velcro. And you like the corner tabs. This is what I would do...

Do not hem the right pocket.

Using either fabric or some clear vinyl, cut 4 squares. Fold in half, and lay on each corner of the right pocket. No turn under the left long edge and sew down.

Align the top, bottom, and right edges.
Align the left pocket in place. Baste the outside edges all around.
For this I would definitely use the plastic canvas. Slip in the right side now...make sure it is a bit smaller than the pocket.
Sew through all thicknesses on the long center edge...sewing through your quilted cover.

Your e-reader should fit securely.

Clear?

This block was a mess. I sewed it together just for this cover. Did not like it. Cut it in fourths, turned the fourths, and sewed back together. Did NOT like that either...it was too big so I cut it in fourths again, rotated and stitched. I liked this. LOL

Oh...looks like at one point I cut it on an angle...and stitched it back up...

I recently washed the pink cover...it did great!

The second one made out of batiks with the purple ponytail holder (that's all I had!) - I made for my boss...Da Judge. She said fall colors were her favorite.

Just got home and dinner is cooking. I am on the west coast so a few hours behind most of you. The board is giving me some trouble again too. Love the tutorial - I made one of these for my Mom about a year ago but your directions look easier than what I did. I will definitely be using your directions when I make one for myself.

Hey Sherry, I'm dropping in to crash the party Smile. Kids had show rehearsal tonight, but had to come and peek at the pictures. I have some of that fabric from the one you made with the orphan block.

I better go do some work in the sewing room before I turn into a pumpkin.

Sorry I missed the party last night. I was going to "audit" the class but DH kept coming in my sewing room with things he wanted to talk about & before I knew it the party was over. I don't have an e-reader but know several people who have one & wanted to watch as you went along. After reading the instrustion, it looks easy & turned out so cute.

Will Jayardi have this one in her list of PJ Party tutorials?

Thanks for hosting the party!!!
