I was wondering if there were any others out there that are not going on the retreat but, would like to do a row by row quilt with me? I just love the ones I have seen in the past but, I'm not going on the retreat to Pa. and would really like to make one. I don't even know how you start. If a veteran Row by Row quilt friend could help I'd appreciate it.

I was thinking no presser we could do something that could take all year. Then it will be our Christmas present to ourselves for next year.

Oh, YES, Yes! I was thinking the same thing - thought it would be fun to do a Sew Along. It would be fun to see what others choose for their quilt-top. I was thinking about giving myself 2 months for each row (plenty of time to finish a row) and I would do a 6-row quilt.

I'm for no theme....we start our own and that will be the inspiration for the next person.
Are we going to use the same dimension perameters as the COF one?
Is someone going to take "charge" of this and mail by dates?

Question? Are we doing it as a I send it to you and you do a row and vise versa around and around, or do you want to just each of us do our own and we just post our progress? I'd like to do different sizes in mine. Starting with a 12 1/2 inch row in the middle. I'm up for either.

Not sure if I can join or not. Might depend on what is decided. I'd prefer a Row Robin over a sew-along. It's so neat getting the finished product and seeing what other people envision for your quilt top. Also I'm doing the Row Robin for the PA retreat so whether I join or not depends on the time frame too.

I'd also vote for no official theme/color/specific block.

We just finished up a Row by Row RR in my quilt guild and it was quite fun and very creative! Everyone did their own first row with their own theme and sent them on. The groups consisted of 5 quilters and everyone just pieced their own row to coordinate with the owner's theme and colors. Some people sent fabric along to make the rows coordinate better. Some of the themes were: Halloween, Christm@s, baby boy, Mary Engelbreit, patriotic, farm (remember I live in Nebraska!), autumn and mine was making New York Beauty blocks. I asked them to not hook their blocks together so I could arrange them when it came home.

I would sure love to play with you all but I just backed out of the retreat Row by Row due to my Dad's failing health so I best not join with you now. Hopefully some time in the future we can do another one here and I can play. I will be following along to watch and enjoy though so don't be shy with the pix!

I will go dig out my quilt guild Row by Row quilt top and take pix and get posted...back in a flash...

Here is my pieced guild Row by Row. The corners were actually made by Wenonah in a swap we had here on HGTV called: Outside the pizza box. I thought they were perfect as corners for this quilt and I couldn't fit them in to my pieced quilt from the original swap. Thanks Wenonah!

There are so many ideas. I love your quilt top Alex thank you for Sharing it with us. Well I started this so I guess I'll try to be in charge. Since we aren't starting until after the holidays so no presser to really think to hard girls. I think the Row Robin sounds like what most of us were looking at. So lets plan on that.

If you are still interested in joining in PM me with all you information.

If you decide you just want to keep it to yourself we'd love to see your pictures of your progress.

I will post the rules and sizes to start with. Which you will have the option of since you will be doing the first row.

So I was talking to Bluesnail about our dilemma and I think maybe we need to rethink this. She feels we should make our own blocks. In keeping with the row by row scheme, whether it be a 12,10,8, or 6 inch rows. We just keep our own and post pictures of our progress. This way you can take your time and size your quilt the way you want it. Good luck! See you in January!

Hmmmmmmmm ... thinking here... maybe we can have 2 different Row by Row RRs going on? I have been wanting to do another one ever since I received mine back from the NC Retreat. As a matter of fact, the one I received back is finally finished with the binding/label on and is headed out to Texas this afternoon. My friend Leigh Ann lost her home in the Bastrop fires last year and I am surprising her with it for her Open House next week when she moves into her new home.

So... why don't we have one group doing a RR on their own and another group doing a RR by sending them around to each other. I'd jump in and say I'll organize that one if we can get enough to sign up - minumum we'd need would be 6 and maybe 10 for maximum?

Let me put together some Guidelines and then I will start a new thread with sign ups for a Row RR that we will mail aroudn to each participant.
I'm thinking we might have a start date by Feb 1sr as that will give everyone time to do their first row and get through the Holidays.

Anyone else interested for sure?

Interested so far:

I'm still interested in a mail out row by row but I'll wait for the guidelines. It's still a time factor for me. Don't want to sign up and maybe have to drop out due to too much on my plate.

I posted on Nicki's thread that I'd like to join. I like the mailed RRs so I have a surprise at the end, and the design challenges of working on someone else's row. And the mailing deadline is an incentive to get 'er done!
