I've learned lots of quilting tips from my friends but I've also learned some non-quilting tips. DH has a small vegetable garden but because of the hot dry weather we've had this summer, it hasn't produced much. The few tomatoes we got have very tough skins so I wanted to peel what I was slicing for supper tonight. I remembered this tip from a quilting friend: rub the skin with the dull side of a knife until it turns a slightly darker red. Then the skin will pull off easily. It works like a charm! Now that tomato will be soooo good with the last of his corn on the cob and a couple of new potatoes.

never heard of that! I drop them into boiling water for a few seconds, with the bottom cut with an "X" then take them out with a slotted spoon, put into ice water to stop any more heat, skin slides right off every time.Start where the X is.
