Has this been discussed? Just went to the new LQS (which was a woeful disappointment - very small inventory but with promises for more - I think she should've held off her grand opening myself). Anyway, she had a shelf of "Quarter Flats." ???? She worked at Joann's in Austin. They changed Fat Quarter to Quarter Flat because it's more PC?

What in the world?! A PC piece of fabric?! How ludicrous!!!

Oh...SIL and I both made small purchases. After coming home and checking my black/white stash, I need to go back.

I bought a couple of pieces, both black/white prints. One a FAT QUARTER and one a quarter yard cut.

SIL bought 3 or 4 FAT QUARTERS.

Oh.

OH!
Because it's FAT?? Chubby,not slender?

There's been a lot of flap about our airport's inicials on tags for luggage...they think it's not a good image for our city. It's FAT. (Fresno Air Terminal).

Sigh. Soon we'll be reduced to sign language...and even then it could get nasty.

I'm having trouble remembering what I went for in another room...how am I going to start remembering PC &*^%$. Frown

Well, if we hurt the fabric's feelings, the fabric feeling police will lock us up. I certainly hope I never meet the person who came up with this one!!!

This is in the stoopid category - same as Nancyc's airport initials. Sheesh!

Fat Chance I'm going to remember to say "Quarter Flat" now... And I'm certainly not referring to anyone's body shape when discussing FQ's!

I wonder if JoAnn's changed the name because nobody knew what a FQ really was? First time I heard the term, I didn't know.

Edit -- But come to think of it, "Quarter Flat" wouldn't be instantly obvious, either. You could think it's a quarter yard of fabric (9" wide) folded flat.

Ditto patty j! I doubt that there's not a day go by that I don't hear something that "could" be considered offensive.

If I let half the things I hear offend me...never mind. I don't want to be like that.

we could change Jelly Roll, Turnovers, etc tooo. way too much emphasis on food there..... I hate trying to shop online and not be told what the measurements are on those titled cuts. I just don't buy them if I don't know what they are.
