How about a "Goal of the week" thread? Sign In/Join
posted
I was posting on the 2013 quilting goals, and decided I was making a goal for this week, rather than for this year.

Would anyone be interested in a weekly "Goal for the week" thread?

If you all like the idea, I'd be willing to start it. I can start it the same time I do "Sew & Tell" which is Friday mornings. It'd be a nice compliment to Sew & Tell, in that you can tell us in one thread what you did, and in another thread what you plan to do.

If you all like it, does Quilting Goal of the Week sound like a good title? I'm open to other suggestions.

Holly

Hmmmmmm, as in "I will make a new potholder for my kitchen"? Or as in "I will put my Christmas fabrics away"?

Are we looking for something tangible or more elusive?

My usual 'goal' for any year is to get to the end of the year with my sanity intact. And 2012 was a challenge.

I think that would help me. I seem to do better when I have a deadline looming.

My goal for this week would be to take Christmas down and finish the mini quilt that I already gave my Mom for Christmas. I also want to do my 2013 Jan. BOM and also the BOM from Country Stitches.

Paus, it's your goal, so you get to decide how tangible it is.
My goal for this week is to continue cutting up a stack of jeans into 6 inch squares. I'd like to get half the stack done. So my goal is tangible.

oops
maybe I should practice my typing more...
but that would mean less time in my playroom - oh well.

I like it. When you start, my first one will be layer and pin a snuggler ready for quilting. I won't have to quilt it, just get that phase finished that week. I have several that need finishing and this way I'll at least make a start.
Yes, I like it. I think it will boost my efforts to have a Goal of the Week.

Sounds good to me too. I just don't feel like sewing until the holiday decor is put away, but I've been in the mood to tame the scrap piles. So I've been doing the Bonnie Hunter thing and cutting/sorting by various width strips.
I hope to finish this large plastic box I'm working on by the week's end.

Sounds good to me. My goal this week is to put binding on a table runner and a little quilt I made for the front door. Also I want to get the lining in one of my husband's jackets repaired. Do we post pictures here or in the Sew-n-tell thread?

Thanks, MissM!
Deb you can post on either or both threads.

We learned in nursing school that goals should be realistic, attainable, and measurable. That's why I like a weekly goal rather than a more global yearly goal. Or as part of a global yearly goal, broken down into chunks.

Fun idea, Holly.Smile My goal will probably be pitifully small, but any goal would beat what I'm not doing most weeks, now. Roll Eyes

This week: cutting squares and handsewing the folded bow tie blocks from a post on here, recently.

You're not going to grade us, are you? Big Grin

Holly love the idea! My biggest downfall is having to read all of the wonderful things posted on this board when I come to check out a thread I need to... fear it would keep me from my weekly goal! Big Grin
Right now I need to find my table in my sewing room and get some semblance of order so I can even think about a weekly goal! Wink

Sounds like your goal for this week is "find my table...and get some semblance of order"!

Great idea and I'll join in. This week, my goal is to finish Easy Street (Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt) and make one more block for Sunshine Quilters so I can get that in the mail.

I posted about my overall goals on the other goal thread. I do usually have shorter goals and time frames in mind when I think about those larger goals. The tops will probably be quilted by spring. The Decorative Stitch book will be broken down--probably last through fall.

By next week, I hope to have the binding completed on my Beach House quilt and project one completed in the Machine's Decorative Stitches book (I finished this goal last evening)!

My goal for this week is to take my machine to a dealer tomorrow (an hour away) to leave it for repair. I was in the middle of embroidering at Christmas time! This is my Pfaff sewing and embroidery machine. I do have a backup, but it's not the same.

I need goals, too. Otherwise I just fiddle away time, sometimes.

DH came in the sewing room this morning and asked about the Pilgrim and Turkey applique that I started way before Thanksgiving. I don't like how the applique stitches are going on, but he does and he wants me to finish it. Guess that is my goal for this week. It is about half done. I still don't like it and feel it is a waste of time. But I'll do it.

I love this idea - really like the idea of weekly goals to keep me moving.

I haven't really done any sewing/quilting since March of 2010 (when my Dad died). I was making him a quilt and didn't get it done in time, so I put it away and haven't done anything since.

I am now feeling like getting back into it so am really thrilled I will be going to the COF retreat this year.

So, this is coming at a perfect time for me. Thank you for starting this.

My 1st. goal is to be able to walk into my sewing room - it has become a storage room for stuff I didn't know what to do with.
I'm excited about this!!!
