A dear friend of mine since 3rd grade is going to be a Grandmother in January. This will be the first Grandchild for her family. They just found out this week the baby is a BOY.

I'd love to see some baby quilts that you have made. I plan to make one for the baby shower. Any suggestions? Show me your pictures!! Big Grin

I have made baby quilts for all of my 5 grandchildren and 6 great-nieces and nephews and I have quilted hundred's for other people. For each of my grandchildren I have done similar to this one. Just a simple overall printed block pattern and I hand quilted around the blocks.

For the nieces and nephews, I use a printed fabric and machine quilt with an all over pattern.

And then I have done hundreds of embroidered quilts for some ladies who love to embroider and sell their quilts. You can find lots of different patterns to embroider. Most of my quilts are 40" by 60".

I use to make complicated baby quilts ... no more. Why? They just don't use them that much. I go simple now.

I like to use the warm wishes pattern. It works really well with novelty prints. I try to make mine around forty five by fifty five. I know it is a bit large but then they can use it longer. It makes a good snuggy while watching TV as three or four year olds.

Used pastel batiks for this, in the colors that mimic the sky over Magens Bay at dawn; so I named in New Beginnings.
P.S. I've made a few took-forever/keep-forever quilts, but found that those new parents kept them on a wall or in a drawer. I have much more fun making simple projects that are infinitely washable and become well used and loved.

This was made from a pattern in a magazine. Sorry but I don't know what magazine. But it may give you some ideas for designing one.

Beautiful quilts! I don't have much experience with baby quilts yet. I made a posie quilt & an ABC quilt but I can't find pictures.

This one was from 2 I Spy swaps, different sizes, so I added borders to make the blocks the same size.

KQ, are you in St. Thomas....St. Maarten? I might have passed your house before, lol! Wink Those colors are perfect for your area.

Meme, in your first quilt, did you cut out those designs and applique them on? In your second quilt, your stippling is beautiful. Was that done with a longarm?

Sandy, love your pink & black quilt!

Mary Lou, your quilts are all gorgeous!

I made this one at the request of my DIL. It's my first baby quilt. The nursery is a really pretty medium blue and her mother painted white trees on two of the walls. This will match the nursery. I thought it was finished, but I decided the outer white border needs more quilting. I'm going to use an intertwining ribbon stencil and do it in light blue. I think it will be the perfect touch!

eta: the pattern did not say to stitch down the rick rack, but I stitched it down. I could see this being a problem wash after wash!

What pretty quilts everyone has made. Its amazing the different designs we come up with and enjoy using.

I've always liked the Warm Wishes and made several for NICU babies and I make others for friends and family. Here are a couple of variations.

I'm getting my third grandson in December. My son and his wife are teamropers, and super active horse people. I wanted to do something WAY out of the norm of baby boy quilts. You can't see the detail, but I did a simple loopy barbed wire like stitch to quilt it. I already sent it to them and my daughter-in-law just went crazy for it...hehe I struggled with putting the 1" wide black border on this quilt, but it popped the colors so well I went for it. My daughter-in-law painted their nursery power blue and chocolate brown. So.. this was as close as I could get. The horses have the FUNNIEST surprised looks on their faces. The back is rich gold colored flannel with stars on it.

ALL of the quilts posted here are just WONDERFUL! I love them and they inspire me! I don't think I'm EVER going to get a grand daughter... so.. it's boy baby quilts for me... LOL

I'm stealing your "attic windows" idea and making another quilt! I bought some sock monkey fabric and THIS IS the quilt pattern that will display it perfectly! THANK YOU!
