Do you sew the strips together just as they come in the jelly roll or do you mix them up?

I purchased a jelly roll from MissourI Star Quilt Co. and all the dots are together, stripes together and swirls together - there seems to be two of each of these patterns in the same color. The prints are all then together.

I'm thinking of alternating one from the top - one from the bottom and so on.
TIA

Even if you mix them up there will still be some that end up side by side. But from the way you describe the jelly roll, I would be tempted to adjust some of the colors. Do remember the first strip and the last strip are going to be partly side by side in the finshed product, so it's really hard to predict how it will turn out. All of the ones I've seen are pretty, except mine which was made of mostly dark colors from Buggy Barn.

I would mix them up too. It is a fun process, but I find it a bit challenging to relinquish control Smile.

Mix them up but be sure to cut some off at the first. That's to keep seams from touching. I made three and each was unique.

My suggestion would be to separate the patterns into two stacks if you have two colors of each. Then place the first one of Stack #1 on the bottom and the first two of Stack #2 on the bottom the same way you do for a Stack and Whack. They'll wind up together somewhere along the line, I'm sure, but starting out they'll be separated.

Have fun.

Be sure the two stacks aren't reversed so they match. You see the first to the last and the second to the next to the last, etc. I cut some extra fabrics to mix up the assortment.
