AND, if you need it soon.....use the 10 minute block pattern. How about his favorite color?

Warm wishes is great for larger print fabrics if you decide to go with a novelty fabric. My LQS has comic fabrics - Batman and Superman, I think. That might be neat for a guy his age ( or for my DH, who is a few years older)
Im doing this one blind. all I know is he is very smart for his age. need it in about 3 weeks. I want to make one large enough to cover him will watching tv but small enought so he don't have to carry around a big quilt. I also will be making a quilt for his two sisters one 9 and the other MY GRANDBABY that I haven't seen sence she was 1 she is now 4. I know what I'm doing for the girls but not the boy.

I hope all our daily ups and downs are with needle and thread.
Just use guy colors if you can't find out what his interests are or what his favorite colors are. Can you ask the parents for color or interest ideas? Then pick the quick pattern that you like and go for it.

Just bold bright primary colors would be good too for a boy that age. Red, royal blue, grass green, orange, deep yellow, black. Then if he outgrows what he's "into" now, it will still work for him as he ages, etc.

My GS is 11 and I made him a dinosaur/dragon quilt (primarily dinosaurs), queen bed size. The problem is my DIL can't put it on his bed, as their "rescued from the shelter" dog has ate two comforters. (DIL said "ate"...I think it's more "ripped up" lol. ) I spent countless hours doing embroidered dinosaurs and dragons, so it's fine with me that it stays in the closet for now.

Snowball is a fast block...put the print in the middle and corner fabrics...I figured out how to chain piece and and they went like the wind!
Animals are good prints for boys.

Most likely, I would stay away from prints that look clearly children's. Try a simple modern pattern with black and white prints (more black than white) and an accent color such as lime green, blue or red. Another idea is to take a novelty print (but more realistic looking such as one with the solar system or animals) and do a 4-patch stacked quilt. Sash the blocks and you are all set. If he is into sports, make a simple pattern using fabric featuring his favorite team logo's.

How about race cars/nascar-ish? Or since he's smart for his age maybe he's into video games, maybe a strips quilt they seem to go fast?

Warm wishes. Find out his favorite sport or something similar. Warm wishes always comes out perfect. I did one for my GS several years ago using a baseball print.
The BQ patterns from Maple Island are good for making quilts from fabrics with large prints. This one was given to a 10 year old boy...
Editing to add this is from the original BQ pattern. There are at least two more versions by now. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Bozie,

The Warm Wishes quilt shown by Twostep is a wonderful, easy and quick pattern. (Look online and find it free.) You can make it any size and use a novelty print of a plaid for the center. I ten year old boy is going like animals, cars, planes, motorcycles, sport teams so you really can't go wrong. Just, not too babyish. Have fun!

I'm so sorry to hear about your heart burden with this situation. I will certainly send up a prayer that this person's heart will be softened. I had a friend with a similar situation. So sad. . . I can see the love you put into the quilts. How can anyone be so unkind. . . . I'm sorry you are being tested this way. . keep your faith. .

Sue, this is just heartbreaking. How sad that she could do something like this to her own children. I will certainly pray that this person sees the harm she is doing to her children.

Thanks everyone. I know that one day The Mighty One will brings us together. It's his time not mine. As for as the quilts I'll just have to make more and keep them for them. I do hope someone finds them and puts them to good use or that she just pulled the lable off and they still have them. But I know HE will put the quilts to some good. I know HE is in control of everything. Thanks again.

Sue B, my T's and P's are with you. I have been where you are at and all I can say is keep your faith. She will probley always be the festering sliver under your fingernail. Try to forgive her and do make some quilts for your G-children for when they are older.

Sue,
Sending warm thoughts your way. As others have suggested, make new quilts for when things change. One day these children will come back into your lives
My half-sister was stolen from us as a baby, and never returned. I still wonder about her sometimes, and we didnt really even know her. I cant even imagine how hard it is for you.

Ah Sue T'S & P's for you. It is such a shame that some people are so ugly. What goes around comes around. DD hadn't seen her two Grands then Daug. need help and she brought them from NM spent money she didn't have to take care of them and get the 3 away from an abusive situtation. Well was all good for a while, then it all fell apart and her daug and grands went back to the abusive one, so now things are back where they started with my daug in a nine hole and fighting her way back (we don't have the money to help her out). I know just what you are feeling. What is so sad in the kids get caught in the middle but ususally at some time or another they, the kids figure out what is going on and you will come out on top.
Hugs

SueB, Ts and Ps from me also. It's so sad/ upsetting that they don't see what they're doing to the children, when someone has love to share. Family issues seem to be going around.. I found out, as FB pics were posted that I'm a great-grandmother!! My GS and his gf had a little girl, I hadn't heard anything about him since he disappeared several months ago, turns out they moved in with my daughter (who is living in my house, long story there too ) almost a month ago and I wasn't told, about that or the pregnancy. Sigghh..
