Since I got such an outpouring of responses from my "do you do Christmas" email ... I thought I'd ask some more questions ...

I'm wondering ...

Do you live in the city or the country?

Are you a reader? Do you still do the paper kind, or the new-fangled electronic readers?

We are stuck in suburbia and sure wish we were in the country. I love REAL books. We have a Nook, but I haven't used it yet.

I live in a town by a Big Lake, Love spending time just looking at the shades of blue in the water. I have an eletronic reader, but I like the feel and weight of a "real" book. I'm an avid reader.

I live in the country in a mix of small acreages and farm homes just three miles from "town" (only 2500 people)

Yes, I like to read. Paper books are great but when I am done there is no storage so I donate to the local library. Lately have been getting free books from ereader on the Ipad in prep for travel. Works wonderful, I can read at night while hubby is still driving and no bag of books to pack.

I guess I'm citified. Love to read, but don't have an electronic reader. If you're planning to give me one for Christmas, thanks in advance!

Avid reader and do both paper and electronic!

I live in the country not far from town. I just bought a kindle fire and haven't done much with it yet. I do love books and my bookshelves are full.

I'm a city gal who should of married a farmer.I read every night,love books.Don't have anything but paper books which I like.I get 95% at thrift store and redonate when I'm done.My mom told me how she loved to read,use to take flash light under covers at night.Miss her!!!!

We live outside of town in a little subdivision of about 2 dozen houses. Most of the lots in our neighborhood are an acre, some have been divided. DH had a HUGE shop building, a large garden, and I have an out building for my quilting studio.

I love to read, when I have the time. No electronics for me. I like the REAL books. I, too, get them from a second hand bookstore and return them for more when I'm finished.

I live in the city after living 50 years on the farm. I love to read-especially in bed.

Yes - paper and Kindle

I live on a farm 3 miles from a town of 300 and 12 miles from a town of 2500, I tell people we have to go 45-50 miles to the city just to get GOOD sneakers, but I love it. Live in a house that was built in 1904 and love to read, average at least 2-3 books per week. I get them at our local library and request new releases and usually get them before other readers. Both husband and I are retired and love it, can stay in my pj's till noon if I want and sometime I do.I have been bl-ess-ed with a wonderful life.

I'm "in town", population 3,000. I've considered kindle, or the new nook, but still reading regular paper books at this time.

Native Houstonian — 4th largest city in the US. 'nuff said! Well, except for having the nation's largest quilt show just a few miles away every year.

Rabid reader — hard copies only. One of the advantages of living in the 4th largest city is that there are 7 Half Price Books stores within the Houston area. I keep a list of things I want to read in my purse, and every trip results in at least one "find." Our house overflows with books — DH was a history major, I an English major. Some actually make it back to HPB for resale after we read them. More end up staying here. Sigh........

I live just a little bit out of town (small town - 3000).

I have finally gotten back into the habit of reading. I usually get to the library every week or two. Depends on how quickly I've gone through the previous choices.

I'm looking forward to Christmas decorating in my new digs.

I love to read. I have a Kindle loaded with books and games. I got a Kindle Fire last Christmas and it's loaded too. I still love the smell of the library and paper-hardback or paperback. My daughters all have Kindles so we share books. I can get lost in a good story'

I live in a small town.,Pop15000. But I'm 15 minutes from the city of Little Rock or North Little Rock. The Arkansas River divides them.

I wouldn't mind living out in the middle of nowhere. We have a lot of wildlife here though. Deer-coyotes-foxes-armadillos-andskeeters-birds-and-bugs! I gotta figure out where the comma is on this thing-lol!.,,,,it wont without a period first!

I live just outside a small town of about 2500. I love to read. Mostly I get my books from the library, but I also have a Kindle. It's nice for traveling.

Like several others, I live out of town - and town is only about 3000. We don't even have a Wal-Mart, but there is one in the next town 15 miles away. For major shopping we drive about 40.

I also read a LOT. And like some others, I used to think I only wanted to read "real" books. That changed about a year ago when I got a Nook. Love, love, love it! There are so many free books available that I seldom buy any. I can read in bed after DH has turned off his reading light without disturbing his sleep. I can read in the car at night when we are traveling. And best of all, I don't have books overflowing the shelves.

For the past 6 years, we've lived in a small, but growing town of about 6,000. We are 5 minutes outside of what I considered to be a small town, until I just looked it up and found it to have 106,000. It's all in your perspective, as we lived the first 31 years of our marriage, in the DC metro area

I love to read.....the real thing!! I frequent libraries and used book stores. I swap books with my Mother and sister, and friends.

I live in a large town/small city, pop.30,000. Just 15 miles from larger city of Knoxville, about 300,000. We're on the edge of town, so it's quiet and peaceful. There's cow pasture a block way and you can hear them moo in the morning and at night! I have a great view of the Smoky Mountains on my screened porch. I love it!
I'm a reader. No kindles. Most of my books come from the library, but I buy one occasionally. My DIL passes on one now and then, great ones like Water for Elephants, and some strange ones also!

I live in a little town of about 800. I like real books and I'm sorry that some children growing up now will not know what it feels like to read a REAL book.

My daughter has offered to buy me a Kindle but I have declined. Guess I'm just a holdout.

I loved the books when I was younger,couldn't get enough of reading, when I was in first grade. Now my favorites are Quilting and related things. And this computer!

Saved Sinnr- I live in the city and I love to read. We have this second hand book store in my city and I frequently go there, exchange books. The owner knows what style of book I like to read and she usually has a new author for me to try. When at home I like a real book and when I travel I take my Kindle. Enjoy a good book. Sue

I live in a city and am a frequent reader - the local librarians all know me by name. I have a Nook that I love and also read a lot of paper books.

I live between the 1st largest and the 4th largest cities in the state. (Seattle and Federal Way). I read about 6 books a weeks both paper and Kindel. Love both.

I'm a country girl living in the "burbs" but go back to my family farm about once a week so I have the best of both worlds.

I love to read and read the "real thing" but have a growing interest in an electronic thingie. Maybe soon.

I've enjoyed everyone's stories. I live kinda country, 5 miles to the nearest store/gas station..but only 20 minutes to Cincinnati. Neighbors live on 300 acres and there are homes across the street, but by 9pm you may see a car every 5 minutes or so on a busy night. I lived in city limits til last year. I have deer and bunnies in the yard, a crazy cardinal that likes admiring himself in my car mirror. I love to read, and within a year will be retired so I can read more!! Don't have any electronic gadgets other than smart phone, and I can't imagine trying to read a book on that!

I have a Nook, love it, I am on vacation right now at the beach, so brought borrowed books and my Nook. I do both.

Technically I live in a borough which, I guess is a term synonomous with city but only used in parts of the US - its population is only 23,000 but you cannot tell when you leave one town and enter another unless you a) have a map with you or b) read the sign welcoming you or thanking you
for coming.

Yes, I read the board daily, check my email and keep up on Facebook. Is my computer a new-fangled electronic reader? Then I guess I do that. I would never read a book on an electronic gadget of any kind though. Not even those that make the paper turning noise - ugh.

Oh - and about Christmas - the email question I never answered - Yes, I celebrate the birth of the Messiah! Our family is changing though so we don't do the same things as we used to. I decorate and bake and usually go to my mom's in Ohio and visit dh's parents there too. Then we come home and celebrate here.

I'm a country gal, living just outside of Melbourne population just over 4,137,432 (that's just the metro area) We moved to a small surburb when I first came to Australia which has now grown to over 184,191, all the pastures with horses and cattle have gone that used to be my view, replaced by houses and asphalt So I am a homesick country gal, used to living on 100+ acres of farm land! When we first moved here I saw red foxes and possums everyday,and a few roo every now and again...now the birds is the only wildlife I see.

I love to read and it's book in hand for me, no kindle...although I am constantly surfing and reading on my laptop.

I live in a small city of about 14,000. We are surrounded by 4 small towns and about an hour away to a big city.
I love to read and have over hundred books and magazines. I recently had a garage sale and sold a lot of then because most are in storage. Now with kindle I also have a lot of electronic books and I also get 2 magazines electronically. I will try to use it more but I just can't help my self. If it's a mystery book I usually buy it because DH will read it too. (He has not entered the 21 century yet.

I live in a smaller city surrounded by more small cities and a few big ones. Love living in the city and all it has to offer. Grew up in a small town(2,000), lived a mile out of town on 15 acres. HATED IT!

I collect books that I plan to read when I retire. No time for book reading currently. Hard to read the newspaper, my quilt magazines and magazines I pick up at yard sales, since I spend so much time on this computer and at the sewing machine.

None of those electronic things for me at this time. Still like the feel of a book (also the newspaper)... Chris

Live in a small town...avid reader but prefer the actual book. I'm thinking about getting an electronic book - someday.

Live in Suburbia 7 to 8 mo/year and the country by a lake 4 to 5 mo/year. Depends on weather and accessibility to the lake.
I love to read and read both paperbscks and hardcovers and have a Kindle.

I live in the suburbs, small town, now 21,000, on the shore of Lake Erie. It was a good place to raise a family - pretty safe with good schools.

I love to read - both books and I have a Kindle. The kindle is good to take on a plane, small and easy to carry. And looking around my sewing room, I have several stacks of quilting magazines and lots of quilting books and cook books.

Grew up in the country, now live in a smallish town. Don't think I could live in a real city.

Big reader. I used to give Mommy gift cards to book stores & let her buy the books which got passed on to me when she was done with them (we have the same taste in books). Got a Kindle when she had a stroke & couldn't read anymore. Now I download lots of freebies & library books.

Love to read!! Always have since I was young. I pick up a book and have a hard time putting it down. Love hard cover books. They're the best.

Moving to the country again by the end of the month!! Almost 40 acres: pasture, pond & woods. So far I've seen rabbits, deer, voles, moles, hawks, herons, turkey, wild ducks & snakes. And lots o' bugs, lol.

I'm a mixed reader, I held out against technology for a long time but now I enjoy having an e-book easily at hand. Still find something comforting about a real paperback tho, lol.

People wave and greet each other, it's wonderful.
Paper books forever. I LOVE the feel and scent of a book. Libraries are one of my favorite places to go, and BOOK stores! I can spend hours in each.

A word about e-Books (Nook, Kindle, etc.)...
I prefer a REAL book in my hands...dust jacket to read, photo of author on back, pages to turn. However, since being gifted with the Kindle, I have found new-to-me authors. Not every book makes the best seller list. And not ever author publishes in paper! I have been amazed at the "new" authors I have discovered and check back once a quarter to see if they have anything new.

And...I don't buy many books preferring to frequent my library. With funding cut to Texas libraries, my small town library has an even smaller budget than before.

I'd never read Teri Thayer until "Wild Goose Chase" on Kindle.
Sheila Horgan writes a series of books about sisters - "Tea Series" - available only as an eBook. Very simplistic reading, but I love the interaction between the sisters (I had all brothers).

Oh...I did get a piece of trash that I couldn't get off my Kindle and out of my Amazon account fast enough. GORY!! I read the review more diligently now before adding to my Kindle account.

I will answer for both mom and me .

The Christmas question. As a family used to do together on christmas eve and then own families on Christmas day. I usually only had a small tree and some small things up. Mom would have tree in house and on porch and some of the blowup things in yard and more. When dad passed away she didn't do anything that year, yet when my son and I moved down with her we did do one tree and some stuff up. More this year, like to go to Christmas eve service also.

We both lived in country. Just townships in areas. See eagles, deer, turkeys, skunks and such in area. Next door neighbors had momma bear and baby(big as momma) come in and tear couple things up. Don't think they liked our fence so didn't visit us. Have 1/2 hour to little bigger town (only kmart,glenns there). 45 min. to hour to town that has walmart and bigger stores.
We both have ipads. I have books on mine and mom only has couple on hers, but both avid readers. Go to library...get used books and check out books. Also little trade in store in town that we go to when can. Pick up at yard sells too. Have bookcases all over house. Love our libraries as can check out one in our township and return it to any other township one in area, also can request from any and have it come to close library. All spokes of the main one in town 1/2 away.

Live in the city and am addicted to reading I have a Nook I have yet to order a book from the library on but I'm determined to get more comfortable with it before winter...

Live in the city after having a farm for 25 years and I was raised on a farm.
DH & I read 'real' books... no electronic here... yet! We do read all the time and get books from thrift stores, garage sales and the once a month library book sale.
The Christmas question: Love Christmas! We don't decorate as much anymore but try our best to spend it with family... either here in OH or with my family in NY.

If you have OCD/germophobe tendencies the e-readers can be a G0dsend. DH was always leary of library books because so many people out there lick their fingers when they turn the page. And, just that fact that so many people have touched the books at all (he avoids shaking hands whenever possible, but if he does the Purell comes out almost immediately)...and lots of people read in the bathroom Now we can get a "clean" library book!

This city dweller loves books. I read too fast to afford that addiction. I enjoy the library and also have Nook and ereader on my iPods. But when I start reading I do little else. I won't go to guild or the grocery store. So I quilt a lot and listen to audiobooks from the library. I seem to be able to function better outside paper books. My MIL was the same. She'd carry books with her and would even read at the dinner table at holidays. Hurt her son so I try not to that often. But when he leaves town;-) I wanted to be a librarian but my university cancelled their library degree my junior year. Ended up being a math teacher with a second degree in English. My DD became the librarian in the family.

for all you who like books and like to read on your vacations I just bought some new book covers my second pair of covers I wore out the first set. I love them for when I travel or just for around the house. It is hands free reading and I never lose my page.

I live in Lewiston, Maine, the second largest city in the state. I don't have any of the new-fangled electronics, so pass the paperback!
