City or country.... You decide we live on 6 acres with 4 goats. I can be in Chicago in a little over an hour, down town Lake Geneva, WI within 30 mins and at my grandparents farm of 150+ acres in 12 minutes.
I always said I would not have any electronic reader. I love any old book Then over two years ago I was given an iPad for a project at work. I downloaded the kindle app then bought a nook. Now I'm hooked! The older I get the more difficult it is to read much, and when I read I don't do much else till the book is done.
As for FISHING ... I will cook and eat fish until I grow gills. But no fishing for me. It's not the heat, the worms, the fishy smell - I just have way more fun doing other things.
Now my DH: he will fish in the rain, he will fish in the sun, he will fish in the dark, he will fish for fun. He loves to fish - Sam I am....

My DH likes to fish but rarely gets around to it anymore. Thankfully, my son and his family love to fish and we had a big fish fry around July 4th each year. l have a motto about fish...
l don't catch them. l don't clean them. l don't cook them. l eat them!
And it works for me, too!

and my DH and DjBrowns DH must be twins seperated at birth, but I mustadmit our holiday plans not only are worked around my son's school holidays, they are also worked around the Snapper fishing competition, which DH and I have entered since the very first year we met...it is great fun and a wonderful 3 days of quality time rocking around out in the bay, hoping to catch the big one although we've each placed several times, we've yet to win! Maybe this will be our lucky year!

My DH likes to fish but sence we sold our glasslined hole in the water that you pour money into and all the regulations we have in this state he no longer fishes. I would go with him on the boat, I would do a little fishing some reading and a whole lot of sleeping. being out on the sound with the swells it was almost like laying on our waterbed. LOL

DH is a sometimes fisherman. Me, I just take a book and read while he throws his line in the water. Usually at a stocked fishing lake. Don't trust the fish from the Ohio River.

Y~E~S!!!!!!!!! DH & DS love to fish...sometimes I think I might change my name to 'fishingwidow'....[IF it wasn't already taken, that is]...LOL!!!!
I love it when they catch 'em, too cause it means they catch it, clean it & cook it.
My favorite way is w/ almond or pecan coating & baked in the oven!! It doesn't smell up the house either. Here's the recipe DH uses"
1 c finely chopped almonds OR pecans 1/4 c bread crumbs 2 T brn sugar [usually does't add it cause it's too sweet] 1/2 t old bay seasoning 1/2 t salt Season fish w/ salt & pepper then coat fish in flour then dip in egg beaten w/ 1 T water, then coat w/ almond/pecan mixture Bake @ 425* for 15-20 min Does 1.5 lbs of fish
YUMMMMMY!! Can't get enough of it!!
DD & SIL just went on a salmon charter on Lake Michigan and gave us LOTS!! So now DH & DS are looking into going on a charter, too! DH smokes it [outside in his smoker] and it's soooo yummy, too!!

No fishing here, though my Dad was a fisherman. He didn't go for the big ones, just the peace and quiet of a small bay in FL in a little boat with 2 5HP motors. He used 2 because 1 quit on him once and he had to paddle back home!
I grew up fishing, but haven't done any in many, many years. I liked catching them but hated cleaning them. I'd always volunteer to fix supper or whatever to get out of the cleaning. As I've gotten older, I don't care for fresh water fish too much -- except walleye and good farm raised catfish. Mostly eat the lighter salt water fish like cod, haddock and especially halibut which is my favorite.
No fishing here either though I do like it in a restaurant I got in trouble once because I was getting bored so I would throw the bait into the water when no one was looking so we'd run out sooner I've never waited very well.

OK I just have to chime in. My DH loves to fish and like the poem above, just add snow to that list and you have a perfect picture of DH. He does the catching and cleaning then I get to fry them up. The past 20 years he has been going to Canada fishing for Muskie. Here is a replica of his biggest one he caught while I landed it in a snowstorm on a lake in Northern Wisconsin. 47 1/2 inches. The fish in the mouth is a replica Perch 12 inches.
Now, do I love fishing the answer is yes, but I don't fish for the really big ones for long, I always take a book with me so when I'm done fishing I can read. I bait the hooks and use leeches, nightcrawlers or even minnows and will sit and watch the bobber with a sucker on it for hours waiting for a muskie or Northern, but I don't have the stamina to cast fish an 8- 12 inch lure looking for a muskie like Gordy does. Here is a replica of my 22 inch small mouth basss caught in a quiet bay in Canada. Both the muskie and the bass are still swimming in the lakes.
I live out in the country on a 200& acre farm. We watch the deer, bear, fox at play along with all the birds. My hubby says his favorite room in the house is the front porch. We do Christmas in the Poconos where our family, his mom and dad, my mom and dad, his siblings, my siblings and our son and his family live. (We moved from there in 98.) I read all the time, mostly in my kindle but also books that may be loaned to me. I just learned this week that you can loan books from your library to your friends/family and they can lend theirs. I am so excited cause I usually read free books while my DD2 buys. I WILL be borrowing from her. I am so looking forward to meeting everyone in Branson.
Oops, forgot to answer the fish question....I love to fish and so does my hubby. We used to go to Canada 3-4 times a year to a place called Calaboogie, don't you love that name. We haven't been since 98 when we moved to this farm. The boat calls all the time to me to take her fishing. Oh well, more time for quilting, beading and reading.
If it involves a car key and a fish restaurant...YEP...I FISH. LOL
DH is Sam and he likes to fish - he just doesn't. However, his son is treating him and DHs BFF since 5th grade to a fishing trip to Florida the end of this week. They'll be flying so don't know what will happen to what they catch. Hopefully catch and release or donate to someone else.
Back when I did go fishing, lemme tell ya...I don't fish...I catch. If I'm not catching, I'm reading a book. No complaining...just not sitting there doing nothing.
It's been a long time since I've fished, but I used to love to pier fish and lake fish. I would scale them, but let others gut them
When I was about 10 years old, I caught a man in a boat, while fishing from a pier. The boat went under the bridge and the man was sitting in the back of the boat. As the boat went away from the bridge, the man stood up and grabbed the seat of his pants !!!!!
My Daddy said it served him right, since there were signs posted saying no boats.....
My DH use to be a big bass fisher person. But moved from Louisiana to Memphis. We went fishing a couple times with my DB. I read a book. I also ate PB & J's. Not eating river fish! Not fishing, not cleaning and not cooking. DH & DS went deep sea fishing in Fl. I gotta say the red snapper was delish! I like some seafood. Very, very mild fish for me. I will however eat my weight in fried catfish that is grain fed. No plain ol' for me! During Lent we eat catfish every Friday! YUM!!!!
speaking of deep sea fishing...DH goes once or twicea year, and the fresh tuna is unreal, we love it fixed nearly everyway..gives new meaning to tuna salad, especially with fresh pineapple added...
we catch everything from snapper,to whiting, sea bass, calamari, octopus, cuttlefish, flathead shark...etcThis message has been edited. Last edited by: Kentucky_Sunshine,

I had a chance to play bingo with an ole friend last night... Her life story amazes me ... she is the youngest of 17 kids !!! 17 KIDS!
So I was wondering ... how big a family did you grow up in ? And what the heck would it be like to have 17 bros & sis' ? I only have 1 bro and 1 girl I don't claim as a sis ... I have quilty sisters who don't steal from me if I need a sister
What 'bout y'all ??? Some of us nosey chickens want to know
well I grew up being raised by my granny who had 18 children...and was always introduced as her baby girl...my youngest uncle is 6 years older than me, which may account for my tomboy ways...there were an equal number of boys and girls...but only 2 girls and 6 boys left at home when she took me in..when the food was put on the table, you didn't lolly gag, you had your hands washed and ready to eat...there weren't any leftovers...when all the family came together for the holidays, there wasn't much need for a fire...we were packed in the house like sardines with all the kids, sposes and cousins...I loved growing up in a big family, my heart aches for Caleb...I'm really close to most of my family, and others well I just wished I could divorce them...lol...I too am thankful for my quilty sisters, y'all have been there in heart through dificult times in my life and keep my spirits high and motivate me when I come here...is it September yet?

I have 2 older brothers who picked on me unmercifully, as a child, but who are always there for me now. I also have a younger sister who was born 4 days before my 4th birthday, and was allowed to come home on my birthday, which was unheard of at that time.
We are very close, supportive, and loving, fortunately!!This message has been edited. Last edited by: quiltedmagnolia,
I'm number 9 of 13. What was it like? Well, hmmm...it just was what it was...I couldn't imagine what it might have been like to an only or one of only 2 or 3!
Actually there was a 20.5 year age difference between the oldest & youngest. The oldest was already away in the A*my when the youngest was born & the 2nd went into the USAF a couple of months later. But, there was always someone to play with or someone to take your side if you were mad at somebody else. Dinner was just us kids, Mommy & Daddy ate later, except on Sundays...we all ate together then. We learned early on that we couldn't afford everything we wanted and hand-me-downs & coupon ctting/comparison shopping were the norm. But, we kids didn't really know any different, so I don't think it really bothered us.
My favorite story...Mommy used to regularly fill out a survey from Carole Wright (the coupon people) about what kind of stuff they bought at the grocery store. In turn, they'd send more coupons, geared to what was being bought. Well, once, they ran a promotion- tell them how much you spend on a month's worth of groceries & how many people you were feeding & they'd send a month's worth of menus & recipes. So Mommy did (she was big on menus- you've gotta be organized with that many kids) & they wrote back telling her that it wasn't possible to feed that many people, nutritiously, on how little she was spending! Oh REALLY?!? She also saved her menus, so she sent copies of several months worth & asked what they recommended to improve what she was feeding her family. Not long after recieved a letter of apoplogy with an acknowlegement that she could and was doing an amazing job & LOTS more coupons.
I am #3 of 4. I have one brother (oldest) and 2 sisters. The story I like is about my maternal grandmother. She was the youngest of 12 BUT.... Her father had 9 children and at age 76 married her mother who was 36, a friend of his grand daughter!. They proceeded to have 3 children, the youngest (my DGM) when he was 81! She was 18 mo old when he died. Her mother never remarried.
my philosophy: there are no real mistakes in quilting, just design opportunities!!
And I thought we had more than was needed in a small house with one bathroom! LOL
Counting a cousin my parents helped raise, I am #3 in 5...middle child...without the middle child syndrome as I was the favorite daughter/sister. Middle child syndrome went to the brother just under me.
Funny, 20 years between my brother and my youngest sister. Also another sister. I was #3 out of the 4. Naturally the one I got along with the best is my older sister who is no longer with us.
My mom was one of 13, my dad just one of 3 boys... Chris

From a family of 9. Am in the middle of 6 boys. Sister was the oldest, one Brother died at age 6 months, before I was born. Mother passed away when I was nine, so went to live with Sis. Younger brothers went to an Orphanage, the older ones scattered. Only saw them couple of times during the WWII. Now have only 2 brothers left and we are scattered. See each other during funerals etc. Oddly enough we always kept in touch.
I'm the youngest of seven. Four brothers and two sisters, oldest brother now deceased. He was 18 years older than me. All of us are either two or four years apart in age.
I'm closest to the two brothers nearest me in age, since we more or less grew up together. The others -- not so much. Don't have much in common with them. Actually don't ever remember my oldest sister living at home -- and her son is only 4 years younger than me.
I am the oldest of 3 girls. The second passed away after a car-pedestrian accident 30 years ago now. My baby sister is several states away but we are still close.

I'm #6 of 8, but 11 years younger than the first, and 10 years older than the last. My hubby is #5 of 8 with only one sister. Our first daughter married #8 of 8. Three of my grandparents were from families of 10 (both grandpas were the second son with the oldest son being #2 in the family).
We have 5 of our own kids, 2-3 just didn't seem to be the right size for us.

My parents had 7 kids and were raising kids for 40 years. When my baby sister was born, my oldest sister was getting married. I am the fifth of seven . Patty j and I are very close, 18 months apart, she is the older one.LOL She and I quilt together all the time. I only had one brother, who was older than me by 7 years and died at age 50. We only had one bathroom, so we never spent much time in the bathroom, because some always needed it. LOL Sue

I'm #2 of 4, but I'm the only girl so was a bit spoiled. Older DB and I argued a lot as kids but are friends now. Younger brothers and I always got along pretty well. There's 13 years from oldest to youngest. The year oldest started college, I started high school, next brother started junior high, and baby brother started kindergarten. We joked that we were all in our first year of school!
Mom's family was like ours, she was #2 of 4 and was the only girl. Dad was oldest of 7, with the only girl the second child.
l have 1 older brother and 2 younger sisters so we were an average size family at the time. My brother and l were always close and my sisters were close to each other. ln the family we were known as Randy, Rainbow and "the girls" meaning my sisters not including me! Always 1 bathroom until the last 3 years l was at home then we were really up there with 1 1/2 bathrooms! But it always seemed like we had a bigger family b/c Grandma Bessie had 9 children and except for the oldest one all of them lived close by so every holiday was a major event. Loved every minute of it and miss it so much. Things changed after Grandma Bessie passed away 5 years ago. So sad.... Back to brothers and sisters.... my brother lives next door to me and my sisters live close to each other about 3 1/2 hours away.
l'm loving these questions!

I'm the spoiled baby with an older sister. Pretty much grew up just 3 females in the house with 1 bath, since Daddy died when I was 9. Sis & I both still sew, and since she lives in OH and I don't see her often, it shocks me how much she is my Mom all over again in her looks and gestures.
Even tho I didn't experience growing up with a huge family, I'd love it now, especially if most lived close enough to get together often.

I'm the eldest of 3 — brother then younger sister. Brother and I are estranged, not terribly close to my sister.
No kids of our own either. It has a lot to do with being in a classroom all day with runny noses and temper tantrums and hugs and smiles and the other things that go with "raising" 22 − 25 little humans for 7 hours per day.

I'm the first of eleven, not all of made it...so we just say that there are eight of us. Life was always busy and you were never alone. That was usually good...but not always! When you wanted peace and quiet...you had to go to the outhouse!
