Thanks to Owie, I went to Amazon to look at the prices of chicken scratch books. I have all four original books from Pegasus. Goodness, I've had them for years (and years). The prices are unbelievable! Maybe I should sell them. Has anyone ever bought quilting or chicken scratch direction/pattern books on Amazon?
I've bought in-stock quilting books that ship from Amazon, and I've also bought used books from their other sellers if the price was reasonable. The sellers I bought from were professional used-book dealers who use Amazon as well as other outlets.
I've noticed that sometimes when a book goes out of print the price will rise to ridiculous levels. I think that's mostly wishful thinking on the part of the sellers. I had a book that originally sold for $32 on my wish list. It went out of print before I could get it. The price from these outside sellers immediately jumped to between $169 and $199. The same sellers are still offering me the book at the same high price and I'm still not buying.
Just because the price is showing up as high, that doesn't mean that it will sell at that price. I'd also check out ebay before I set a price.

I have bought, I don't have anything to sell Never had a problem tho it is best to shop around for the best postage deal if you are using the outside sellers or buying used. Some might have the book for $1 cheaper but charge extra in postage. There is a media mail postage guide on USPS website that can help you decide if the postage listed on books is fair or not.

My favorite source for buying any kind of book has been http://www.alibris.com/ You can search for books by title, author, or genre. The search produces a list of sources for both new and used copies.
I have only used http://www.half.ebay.com/ for selling and I have limited experience even at that. ~karen
I have bought several books on amazon but not quilting books. I have nothing but good experiences with the sellers whether it be amazon or any of the others. They have a set shipping price per book unlike ebay has different ones.

I'll add that I've bought directly from Amazon and also used from their merchants. When I buy used, I look for someone with a lot of sales and a good rating.
I have bought quilting books from Amazon and off ebay with no problem they have looked like new as the seller said they were. Need to go check since I want that book by Betty Cotton, Cotton Theory quilting 2
I need to correct my previous post. Instead of the alibris site, go to http://www.findbookprices.com/ That's the best way I've found for finding the best prices on any book I was looking for.
Sorry, I steered you wrong with the first link, although it is often where I find the books I am looking for. Dorie, findbookprices says that Amazon has the best price for the Cotton Theory 2 you are looking for. http://www.findbookprices.com/search/?isbn=9780977261116 ~karen
I always check out the sites on-line before I purchase a book and buy there often. Half.com., Amazon and/or their sellers, eBay, etc. Even Overstock.com - they have very reasonable shipping costs and have new books (quilting and others) every so often. Then, the books come to me and I don't have to trudge around. I'm all for that

I've sold books, cd players, cds, etc at Amazon several years ago. It was a great experience, of course you always get a few bad seeds. Though I've never been successful on eBay, I prefer Amazon over eBay. It is very easy to list your item, just follow the "I have one to sell" links.
I've purchased books from amazon before. All have been used and in excellent condition for an exceptional price. My paper piecing books were almost brand new, got for about 5 dollars.
Wishing upon a star....
