Hey Shey, wanna come over in March to see Bonnie Hunter in person?? She will be at my guild for a workshop and lecture. She will be in Maine soon too at KC1930's guild.
I'm in the process of doing the final overhaul of my sewing room. Have played around with organization in the past and have never had enough storage. That's just about to change thanks to The Container Store .
Gosh, Starry, those are some great sites!!! And what an effect they had on me. Freeing, is the word that comes to mind.
Several years ago I recognized I was overloaded with green scraps because the decor of my favorite people to make for is green and red. I began making wonky log cabins. It was the only thing that came to mind since it was allll scraps. I felt, in many ways, I was restricted to a structured pattern.
With time I've begun to see more and more scrappy quilts that seem to fit with my scraps problem but seeing these today has really enlightened me.
I wish I could find the site I was looking for. Someone had taken fabric crumbs, separated them by color, and I think appliqued/zigged them to white background fabric, with spaces between the scraps. Each block was a rectangle, if memory serves, and there was only one color per block. Does anyone remember seeing such a site? I'm pretty sure I either got to it from this BB or else someone had made something or posted something very similar. I thought I had saved it as a bookmark, but maybe I saved the picture instead?
I love how white fabric can really make scrap quilts sing! It gives the eye somewhere to rest, too.

Was it Pvillelou or KimStrut? Someone made a Mrs. Claus quilt like that too, I think.
ETA: It's called a ticker Tape quilt and I found the tutorial on Crazy Mom Quilts blog. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Quiltinana2,

As soon as I read Starry's description I knew which quilt she was talking about and went searching through my files. I found another one we were talking about on the board but hadn't gotten to this one yet.
Yes, it is the Ticker Tape quilt and here's the link.
Thanks - we are getting close! It was that same idea of little squares, but these were either finished mini quilts all of one color, or else blocks (rectangles), like colors of the rainbow. I can see them in my mind's eye but I can't remember how the maker made the blocks.
I thought I had bookmarked the page, but it might have gone into the list named something else, which is why I don't find it when I scan my bookmark list. I'd have to stop & open each bookmark to check.

i really like all these ideas to use scraps.. makes me want to try them out.. i love the linus one.. was there a tute about that one??.. or blog or something.. altho it kind looks like it was done the same way as the ticker tape one.. makes me want to stop cleaning and organizing and just play.. lol..
with all this cleaning and organizing i'm finding out what colours i'm lacking in my stash.. i have tons of blue, lots of green and more pink and purple than i thought.. but not very much red, yellow and orange.. at least i'll know what colours to concentrate on when i can allow myself to stash shop again..
what colours are overflowing in your stash.. and what colours are you lacking???

I use the lil wooden trays from the produce department to stack strips and pieces. When I buy clementines, I always look for these wooden 'crates'. I have thread spools in one, then scraps of fabric under that. Also keep one for my "next" project-in-waiting. And doing the hexagon stashbuster swap made me realize I have way too many "theme" fabrics. I personally wish I had more Moda Marble fabrics, in larger quantities.
