I'm trying to get my sewing room organized after having everything in storage for about three years. Now I have a LOT of scraps. I started to use Bonnie Hunter's Scrap Using system but have some questions. Do you start by pressing all the scraps? Do you sort them by color? Do you cut strips first then cut smaller after you decide what to make? How big a piece do you put aside till needed for something else? So many scraps and so many questions!!

I believe shey had a post a few days ago where several people shared their ideas. It may be here on page one or page two.. Lots of great ideas were given. www.pigtalesandquilts.com www.crazyquiltingsupplies.com Crazy Quilting is addictive so we just have to STITCH IT OUT LOUD!

Definitely press before cutting or the size will be wrong. I usually press one piece, cut it, then press another. For your other questions, there are probably as many answers as there are quilters! Some sort by color, some sort by size, some sort by type (for example: 30's, Orientals, civil wa r, etc). Think about the kinds of quilts you make and the most common sizes used for them. Many that I make use 2 1/2" strips so that's what I cut more than other sizes. Seems like Bonnie suggests cutting larger sizes that you want first, then smaller sizes depending on how much fabric is left.

Here's the thread pvillelou was talking about. It has a lot of good ideas. http://boards.hgtv.com/eve/for...4011632/m/8403953767 I agree with pvillelou and Bonnie Hunter. Cut the largest sizes first then the smaller pieces from what is left. My largest block is 10 1/2" simply because of storage space. Now I had some what I call ugly fabrics and I just cut them into strips for string quilts cuz I knew where they were going. This message has been edited. Last edited by: paus4quilts,
