JULY STASHBUSTING
Welcome to the 2012 Stashbusting Thread.

I am Gonesewin and I will be starting a new thread for each month for everyone to post pictures (If at all possible) or tell about your stashbusting efforts. It does NOT have to be quilting! This can be any kind of sewing!

There are just 2 rules to join us: what you make make should be mostly from stash and it should be finished during the month you post it as finished. There are no signups, or swapping or... Just this thread. Everyone is welcome!

cksvett has graciously volunteered to send out surprises each month. Your name will be entered each month when you show or tell us about your stashbusted project. On the first of the month when I start a new thread, someone from my family will draw a name and the winner will be posted on that new thread. If your name is drawn please send your mailing information to cksvett so your surprise can be mailed to you.

New This Year Royalboomer has graciously volunteered some of her "extras" as prizes too! So what I am going to do is this: Those who finish bigger projects or do multiples of 5 smaller items from stash will also be put into a separate drawing and one will be awarded a prize from Royalboomer each month!

Cool Beans, huh?

SEW, let the stashbusting continue!

That will be very nice for your dad, GAQuilter!

I finally have something to show. These would have been done the last of June, but with the power outage after our big storm, got them finished the first of July. These photo albums are for our church's 4th of July craft booth.

GAQuilter, great idea. That will be handy for your Dad.

MaryJ, are those brag book size? What a cool idea.

My "To Do List" isn't getting any shorter but my summer is. Where, oh, where is my motivation???

I'm working on two projects in my sewing room at once (when is that ever a good idea? eek!!) One is an "Addicted to Scraps" Bonnie Hunter block baby quilt. (

btw- you can go to her website- Quiltville.com and see each of the monthly blocks she creates for Quiltmaker mag and the layout she puts them in without having to get the mag. If your math skills are reasonable, you can "decode" the block parts to the right sizes!)

The other is my double bed size D9P quilt top that I'm quilting entirely on my Janome 6500 while using 505 spray to hold it down without pins. I'm about 1/3 to 1/2 done with the quilting on this one.

Congrats to the early bird finishers this month!!! I got slowed down by Friday's storm- we had power but 4 of our kids did not so we became the home base for them and their kids until yesterday! Hear that? It's quiet again and my sewing room is mine, all mine and I don't even need to share the computers in here with my GSs to keep them occupied while I chase down the 1 and 3 year olds!!! Wink

Finally I got a stashbusting project finished up! It's from Bonnie Hunter's Addicted to Scraps blocks that she puts into Quiltmaker mag each month.

Called Whirly Girly and going on her website (Quiltville.com), I was able to decode the block without getting the magazine!

Total stashbuster baby quilt!!! Still no end in sight with stash! (Don't misunderstand- I consider that a PLUS!!!)

Got a couple more things done for the church craft sale. Don't know yet how well the sale went, it was so stinking hot, and it was outside at the park, many people may have just stayed home.

The lace around the piggy purse has pigs on it, so I finally had a use for the lace!!

I've been busy quilting up tops already completed on my new stretched machine so I won't show them again. But during the hottest heat wave ever, I decided to break into the stash of flannels from a garage sale a couple years back and see what I could do. The first (and simplest) was a panel of flannel and chennille with a couple small borders. Found another print in the stash and made a larger, final border. Used flannel stash for the backing, too, and some batting we got at the same sale.

PS - all my sewing machines, on the frame, in the cabinet and my portable one, HATED the chennille so it remains unquilted. Stippled in the flannel rails on either side of the chennnille.

Nice projects from your stash so far & it's only July 9.
GAQuilter, that's an excellent idea for your dad. It will be handy for him with the velcro...right at his fingertips.

MaryJ, those little photo covers & neat & I bet they sold good at the church craft sale. Now what little girl wouldn't love to have one of those purses. You did a great job on them.

gardenpat, your Whirly Girly quilt is beautiful. Someday I want to make a nice scrappy quilt.

mcpatches, you sure are a brave one to pull out flannel during the hottest heat wave ever. It sure is cuddly looking & I really like the silk bindng. It give the quilt a nice "sparkle" to it. Some baby is going to be warm & cozy under it.

I cleaned out my stash drawers this week end & found a panel that a friend has given to me so I made it into a doll quilt for the Get Your Mrs Claus project. The backing is stash also. I didn't know how to quilt the inside so left it unquilted (for now). I quited the bottom piece across it & across the top light blue border & around the center panel. I'm still thinking about the center...the center is 10" x 10" & was wondering if that's too much area to leave unquilted.

cksvett, Thank You! Thank You!
The fat envelope arrived just now... the mailman brought it to the door. I am totally amazed at all you sent for the prize!
The note you enclosed called it "Christmas in July" package and such treasures!
3 patterns, two magazines (I haven't seen either!), 4 spools of thread, some variety nickels, and then there's the Christmas fabric! Lots of it.... a couple yd. pieces, some FQs and some this and that.
Thank you very much for sharing all that with me and I will definitely use it.
I will see if my DH can get a picture of everything.

I'm loving everything I've seen so far for July Stashbusting! Good job to all for being on-the-ball and getting things done early!

This is a 40 inch square quilt I made for my son and his family. They use them on their dining table. The are great vocabulary builders and conversation starters for young children.. They are reversible. This is an "I Spy" kind of quilt.

Have been busy working on a couple of blocks for the Christmas in July Blog Hop (sorry no pictures) so the rest of my projects have been a little slow in the finishing part. My mini block for June didn't get finished till last week and the one for May---well not even started yet. So here is the one for June.

Sure wish you could post more than 1 picture at a time but my other project will follow.

Margie, that's really cute mini block for June. I'm going to make them all someday. I love your tablerunner & your FMQ looks great. My DD reduced my avatar for me. She put it in My Pictures & then took it to Paint & reduced it there. I'm not sure I could do it myself but she fixed mine for me. Mine is blurry but I like it o.k.

I think Jayardi can tell you how to post more than 1 picture. She tried to tell me once but it didn't work for me. I think it was an operator problem. Wink

As always, great projects.

Don't get much done this time of the year, but here's a lap-sized Turning Twenty for the Vets Home.

No - it isn't your eyes. Oh, hand wasn't steady when I took that picture - sorry for the blurriness.

What a beautiful assortment of projects you all have been working on. Fantastic job on everything. Adorable dolly quilt, wall hanging, tabletopper, journal covers, bags, quilts & everything in between & it is not yet the middle of the month. Way to go!!!

I actually busted some of my stash today too. I used fabric I have had for over 2 years :O: I made a new set of curtains. Nothing fancy, just 2 simple rod pocket panels but I was pleased with them.

Thank You passingthru, This plant is 60 plus years old. My mother started it when I was a LOT younger. When she moved she gave it to me. It never did bloom for her. When I got it I basically ignored it and it started blooming and has bloomed every year. A few years ago (thanks to the computer) I found out it was in the cactus family. Thus the reason it bloomed. I very seldom watered it and Mom was keeping it to wet.

Now I'm off here and going to go work on my 2nd block for the Christmas Blog Hop. Am not happy with the way it turned out but will finish it anyway. Everyone stay cool!!

Margie, your Hoya is gorgeous. Do you keep it inside or out? I had one that stayed outside but thanks to a really cold night, it was pretty beat up. Only one small segment is hanging on, or at least it was when I left on our trip. I'd really like to revive it if I can because of those gorgeous blossoms.

Florida Farm Girl, I take it outside when all danger of cold weather is over and then bring it back in about the end of Sept. It lives in the laundry room and if it gets much bigger I will need to find a place on the floor because sitting on the counter it's about to touch the ceiling plus it's new runners get wound up in the curtain rods.

Just want to say Thank You royalboomer for my prize for last month. It arrived yesterday but I was just to tired to post last night about it. A full day of going to yard sales plus it was hot. Hubby just doesn't want to give up and come home--he might find that one thing--!! I just found a couple of pieces of material. (like I needed it!)

I can use some of it and the other I will pass on. Thanks Again!!!

I've been "cutting up" again! I cut up an old swimsuit coverup to use for a pattern and had enough of this VERY lighweight fabric to make myself a house dress. It is so much cooler to wear than shorts and tops. :-)

Have been making some more table runners. These will be Chri*t*mas presents. One of the girls asked me to make her one for each month. Yep, right I'll get right on that. So however many I get made will be divided up between them. This first picture of just one showing what all three of these look like, just different material.

This picture shows these last 3. The pink one doesn't have the binding sewn down yet, but will have this evening. Also have a blue disappearing 9 patch that needs quilted yet.

Took me a couple of these mats but I finally figured out (I think) on how to do the angles on binding this shape. First one I had a LOT of trouble with.

Almost forgot about this. On the Red, White, and Blue blog hop Sharon over at http://vroomansquilts.blogspot.com
had made it and she was kind enough to share her pattern. All of this was from stash except for the background for the Eagle. I just couldn't find anything in my stash that I liked. Now my daughter is trying to talk me out of it and she probably will win!! Please excuse the background but I need to a hanger for the Eagle.

Goaskmom, that was a fantastic prize Royalboomer sent you, must have felt like Christmas going through all those goodies. Love your tablerunners, I can see where the binding might be a bit tricky. Love your fabric choices.

Marion, that little number looks very cool to wear on a very hot day & the temps have been quite high in most places this year. Smart idea to copy from an original garment.

Goaskmom, WOW, love that Eagle!!! and really like that siggy quilt in your background too.

Margie - I really like your table runners - printed out a picture so that (perhaps) I could try and make one later this fall. thanks Smile

I did not do any "stashbusting" this month but did add to my collection after a day and a half of shop hopping with DDIL and DGD....I had a ball. Each shop gives the shopper a free FQ - DGD got to be the recipient of those...she has a nice sized stack to add to her stash now. (Her stash requires a very large tote to hold it now and she's only 9 Smile )
