Merry Merry Snowmen Sew Along!!

Pattern designed by Anne Sutton, of Bunny Hill Designs

Merry Merry Snowmen - Size 62 x 66 inches

During the sew along, you will all have a time frame to complete each block. Completed means -- complete -- It does not mean applying fusible to your pieces and ironing them down only. It means adding the stitches around your pieces that anchor them to the blocks. Please play fair.

You will be uploading a photo of your completed block on a pre-selected day here on the forum so we can share with the other members not in the sew along. A Flickr Group has been started for our blocks and you all will be able to upload your photos there as well. Just follow this link to our group and as you upload your photo, you will be added to the group. http://www.flickr.com/groups/merrymerrysnowmen/

Everyone who finishes their blocks by the schedule will be put in to a drawing to win a prize. First name drawn will win the current prize. Some of the prizes have been listed and others will be listed as I know what they will be. I have a few sponsors and un-sponsored monthly prizes will come from the prize kitty.

You can not win the prize more than once in a 3 month period. We still expect you to work on your blocks for the next 2 current months though and share photos just as you had been doing.

At the end when all blocks are finished, everyone will then have a time frame to get their blocks in to quilt top form. A winner will be drawn from all who post their photo by the specified time.

After that everyone will have a time frame to get their quilt finished and bound. Everyone who completes this will be put in a drawing for a much nicer prize and the name drawn will win.

A 12th and final prize will be given to the name drawn from all eligible entries of those who took part 100%. 100% means that you made each block and uploaded a photo of it by each deadline. You were never late and you finished your quilt by the end time permitted.

Here is the schedule I have set up in order for us to have our quilts finished and ready to use for Christmas 2013.

I will start a brand new thread for each installment. PLEASE do not upload any other photos but the current block we are working on. Thank you.

March 1 - March 26 --- Photos of BLOCK #1 are due to post on March 26th by 7 a.m. Eastern time. Prize will be a 25.00 gift certificate from The Fat Quarter Shop. www.fatquartershop.com

November 5 - December 7 --- Photos of finished quilts WITH binding are to be posted on December 7th by 7 a.m. Eastern time

Then --- ENJOY your brand new Christmas quilt!

IF you cannot upload photos to the forum you can email me a photo of your block and I can upload it for you. IF you need to do this do not wait until the last minute to email me the photo. ALL emailed photos should be in my inbox the day before they are due. This gives me time to re-size and get them posted on time.

For the ones who have not finished blocks #1 and #2... Remember, you can still get your name in the pot for 100% participation if you get them finished and post a photo.

There will be 2 - 100% - participation prizes in the end... One for those who were on time every time... and one for everyone who made all of the blocks, and finished their quilt top by the deadline.

So get busy, you have not been left behind. Smile

here is the thread for Block #1:

http://boards.hgtv.com/eve/for...632/m/9053954867/p/1

Here is the thread for block #2

http://boards.hgtv.com/eve/for...4011632/m/1253991967

I am using the * symbol for those who are on time each time and the @ symbol for those who do finish but not by the deadline.

Your * symbols will change to the @ symbol if you do not complete one of the rounds on time.

This will help me see at a glance who to put in the prize pool for 100% "on time" participation.

I will try again that was way too big.

Block 3 is finished and posted. I changed a couple of things-I have a green tree and I put a different roof on my house.

I'm with you, dd. lollll

Good looking blocks, though.

Like the changes you made, shequilts.

It was funny, ironic about not getting my #2 block finished. I found the flooding when I went down to my crafts room for some different beads and buttons. Got them and came back upstairs to call for help. What I didn't get was more embroidery floss. When things reached a point where I wasn't needed and I could sit down my crafts room was filled with furniture, etc., from the rooms that had flooded so now I couldn't get to the embroidery floss. That's all I needed to finish the block. Ahhh, well.

Nice blocks ladies. Mine has been at a standstill for a few days - lost interest in doing the embroidery. Will get back to it soon.

Did however prepare blocks 4 and 5 and all the corner snowmen to take away with me to work on.

Paus.. Hope the flooding wasn't very deep! and you saved all your stuff.

Nooo, the flooding wasn't too deep, only about 2-3" on one occasion I saw. It was trickling back down the drain and soaking into everything else. lollll It wicked into the paneling and wood framing, fur stripping. I went down one time and asked if there was any good news for me and the guy said, "The blankets on the bed didn't get wet". Don't know how it missed those.

Overachiever is an understatement.

That little 2 inch strip at the bottom of you guys house, tree and snowman is at the top of my block. My red square where my house sits is 2 inches lower than it was when I pieced the block!!!!!!!!!!I have been as busy as a cat in the sand box getting ready for next week. But come Wednesday morning, this will be my first project.

I purchased the fabric for my border and backing so I plan on starting the quilting on the first three blocks while we are there.

I have to admit I didn't see those because I was enjoying your blue stars. That's a nice touch. And can I assume 'Joy' was done on an embroidery machine?

I went back and noticed that Shawkl has a moon instead of the roof top star. That's neat, also.

Lots of little touches showing up.

When I picked up my brown thread the other day, as I told the lady about what we were doing, she piped up with, "Oh, the red and white one!" lolll Obviously, this quilt is known.

Yes, the "Joy" was done on an embroidery machine. After looking at it again, I wish I would have put it on the house just below the roof instead of on the roof.

Sure you can use the smoke idea. I think we are all getting ideas from each other. Someone had used carrott buttons for noses and I had to find some too. That's what makes this sew-a-long so fun. I found some beads the other night that I might have to go back and add to the lady snowman in block 2. I also found some snowflake and snowman buttons that I haven't decided where to add them yet.

You can certainly "use" any idea on my blocks that you like.

If I was more creative, I'd be using J Lu's expressions for my snowpeople! Just love that lady snowperson...giving her husband the "look".

Adorable!

Such pretty blocks...loving all of them. These will really be wonderful quilts when completed.

J Lu, you are crazy! LOL! But I know that kind of crazy because I am tempted to do the same thing. I am loving the blues that are being used and keep thinking I should try a blue one.

Thank you for liking my blocks. This is really the first time I have "gone my own way" with a pattern. I wasn't sure how it would look but I love it. I hope I will be able to look at patterns differently for what they can be in other fabrics. I tend to see what is in front of me instead of what I can make it be. This pattern is the perfect example, I loved it but didn't want to make it in the colors shown. Thanks to you guys and Quiltaholic for helping me out of my comfort zone!

Alright girls - is no one else done with their third block? Your pictures are my inspiration. My sewing room is spread all over my upstairs in preparation of moving it to a different room. So, I may be late on this one.....depending on how my DH responds to the whip cracking this week. LOL! Just kidding....NOT!

I have 3,4, and 5, ironed on. Just have to find time to sew them on and do the embroidering. Hope to make the deadline, but have a son visiting this week.

I just looked at that dead line date. Ummmmm! I've been so busy trying to finish all these baby quilts, work, Linus quilts, fish, work, husband, family, oh and BOM projects, I seem to have pushed you guys to the back of the bus. I had a cancelation today so maybe just maybe, I can fit my little man in.

I will be adding my new fabric to this one. I am also still redoing the first 2 blocks. Pictures to follow. Pretty soon it'll look like you house around here Marj.
