I often wonder why people donate to a tragedy instead of donating locally in memory. I am sure that all the toys would have been appreciated by Toys for Tots.

When I sent two pillowcases to the quilt shop in CT, I wrote a note stating that they were welcome to give them to any charity that they wanted to. I was afraid that there would just be too many.

I would hope that Newtown can receive the pleasure of being able to give the excess to other schools, families, and communities in need. One of the other ways that help to heal through a horrible portion of life.

I've heard this same thing at least twice on national news. Newtown officials are pretty much begging people to stop sending to Newtown and to send to charities in their hometowns.

I suppose they could call in Salvation Army, Good Will, or some other organization to just send a truck to clean out the warehouse and distribute to other charitable outlets...but why not go ahead and contribute to your own area? Or maybe get in touch with some cities and townships on the east coast that were devastated with that last storm and ask if they would accept the items and send to them directly...
