I brought this subject up the other day on here and lo, and behold, Fons and Porter have a video here and tutorial on how to do it. I guess it will be in the current issue of "easy quilts".
That's probably where I picked it up. I was doing a lot of wearable embellishments and I remember how excited I was to learn this way. Clothes felt so much better, comfy.
I used to do it when I used Heat in Bond, but since I discovered Seam-2-Seam lite (or whatever it is called), it is light enough I can hand-needle through it without difficulty.

At the time, for me, using the full fusible made the clothes feel too stiff. With just the rim of the fusible it was much softer. I just kept the habit when I started doing fusible on quilts. Same thing; feels more pliable. As I said I've never used the SAS so don't know the difference.
